You can use the USB mode to connect to a printer or a host PC. Before connecting to a printer or PC, refer to Installing software and drivers on the page 76 of the User Manual.

When the video camera is connected to the computer or printer using the USB cable, one menu displays in your monitor.

Use the joystick to highlight an option and press the scroll wheel inwards to confirm.

You can select PC Camera feature, when you set in this tag, the video camera can be used as a webcam for video conferencing.

I hope helped with this.

It is not possible to use the Camcorder as webcam using USB interface as the Camcorder does not have the USB Streaming feature.

You may connect the Camcorder to the A/V input of the Computer to use it as webcam.. However, it is required to use a software which is compatible for capturing videos from A/V interface to use it as webcam.

Have a Sony DCR-DVD108 DVD Handycam Camcorder with 40x Optical Zoom and wondering how to hook it up as a webcam

I guess my question to you, why would you want to use a DVD Handycam Camcorder with 40X Optical Zoom as a webcam? The optics on that camera are great and I would use the camera as intended. It would be bulky to mount and use as a webcam. Most webcams are mounted on the front of your monitor. It seems to me it would be easier to just pick up a webcam that is designed to sit on your monitor. Logitech makes some great ones.
Here is link: for some webcams.

Use sony dcr-sr40 as webcam

unfortunately for this model, it would not be possible to be use as a webcam. it uses HDD as its recording media. it may actually work if you have:
1.an a/v capture card installed in your computer that connects to the a/v jack of the camcorder.
2.a webcam application software that supports a/v connection
basically, you would need a camcorder that that has a usb streaming feature and a computer that has an OS that supports it (i.e win xp),or you can use ilink (dv or ieee1394) connection So you should be using a digital-8 or dv camcorder.it works perfectly as a webcam.of course, your webcam software should be designed to work with whatever connection your using.hope this info helps.tnx:)

You will need:

A Camcorder (Firewire or Analog)
A Firewire Card (For Firewire Camcorder)
A Video Capture Card or TV Tuner (For an Analog Camcorder)

A way to connect the Camcorder to the corresponding cards.

The Eagletron TrackerCam Software.
Go to trackerCamhttp://www.trackercam.com/TCamWeb/download.htm
to download it, it is a free download. You need additional hardware to get full use of the software, but for a basic webcam this software is enough.Active WebCam captures images up to 30 frames per second from any video device including USB, analog cameras, TV-boards, camcorders, and from network IP cameras.

The program performs simultaneous recording and broadcasting from unlimited number of cameras.

How to use a dvd cam as a webcam

hi!
i have a camcorder too im using it for some capturing videos on some places. i have webcam for chats and capturing pictures on a computer.so i suggest that use a webcam instead of camcorder. it will be pretty easy to use.

but if you want to use your camcorder as a webcam heres my help. all brand new camcorders have their own cables like usb, adapter, cd drivers, etc.. In interface on your camcorder just plug the usb to your computer. make sure that the computer will detect your camcorder. It will notify you for the installation of your device. If the computer searching for the drivers hardware just insert the cd driver included on the package of your camcorder. install it and when the computer will say that "your device is all ready to use" it means that the computer and your camcorder ready for some capturing moment or can use it as a webcam. i myself is using a yahoo messenger. the best way to apply for some devices like webcams and camcorders. it can easily detected.

i hope that my solutions help you!

My PC wont recognize my panasonic NV-GS70 camcorder as a webcam, it recognises new hardware but then cannot install the DVC serial device. Think I need a driver. Any ideas?

Yes you must install a USB camera driver that came with the camcorder. If you have lost the CD, then you can go to the manufacturer's site and find it. After installing the driver, you have to set the camcorder into Webcam mode. The technique will vary from camcorder to camcorder, as explained in the owner's manual. Also do a search on your comp using something like "using camcorder as a webcam" USB camera driver for XXXX", etc. etc.

JVC Everio GZ-MC275AA

Video streaming is possible with DV camcorders thanks to the Firewire port (IEEE1394), which works very much like a digital video in/out connection. Basically, the camera just sends video, and if there's a computer attached, it receives the video and decides what to do with it on a computer.

USB doesn't work that way, normally. Most tapeless camcorders automatically set up the webcam as a storage device, which is a very distinct thing from a video streaming device.  A storage device is just a disc of some kind... it will show up under some letter (eg, K:) in Windows, when you attach the camcorder.

Some USB camcorders allow for a "webcam" or "streaming" mode... I didn't find any specifics on your JVC, but I know some of the Panasonics support this. There are two ways. One is that, if you have the camera in record/standby mode, it may just go automatically into webcam mode when you attach USB.

The other way is that the camera will have something in the menus, like "Live mode" or "Webcam mode" that instructs it to configure USB for video streaming rather than storage-class attachement.

And of course, some of the tapeless camcorders have a Firewire port, just like a DV camcorder, which is there specifically to allow for streaming video, etc. You could use your camcorder as a web camera over Firewire, given the proper software... though you might find that's just as expensive as buying
a webcam.

And given the price of actual webcams, I would consider buying one
rather than adding wear and tear to my camcorders, just based on
price. This is the same  reason I have a DV tape rewind device.. $20 device, $2000
camcorder... easy math.
