GE refrigerators are subject to a blown defrost heating element and thermostat.
Unplug the refrigerator, remove the freezer shelves. Remove the back wall of the freezer to access the defrost thermostat and defrost heater.
The heater is glass. It will have a dark burned appearance. The heater and thermostat both should be replaced. They come as a set.

Pull the refrig out and remove the 8 " x 10 " panel . Behind this panel , is the main control board ( you already know , since you changed it ) . Unplug the refrig . Remove the BLUE plug from the board , with 3 larger wires going to it . Looking at the blue plug , the sequence will be wire1,wire2,space,wire3 . Get a short piece of insulated wire , and strip about 1/4 inch from each end . Insert 1 end into wire2 , and the other into wire3 . Plug the refrig back in . After about 3 min , look in the freezer , at the bottom , behind the crisper , look for a red glow . If no red glow , unplug the refrig , and reassemble the plug and cover . This no glow , indicates a shorted defrost heater ( pt. number WR51X10055 ) . It is also advisable to replace the defrost thermostat ( pt. number WR50X10068 ) when replacing the heater . To access these parts , you will have to remove the inside rear wall of the freezer . The heater , is at the bottom of the coils , held on with 2 screws , and the thermostat , is the 1 " cylinder , with a blue and pink wire going to it , clipped on the top left of the coils .
If you do get a red glow , then the # 4 thermistor is bad . This tells the main control board , the temp of the coils , if they need defrosted , when they are thru defrosting . This thermistor is the 1 " long , torpedo looking piece , clipped on the top left of the coils , with 2 white wires going to it . Part number WR55X10025 . It would be advisable to also replace the # 5 thermistor , located at the bottom of the freezer , slightly in front of the drain , also with 2 white wires going to it , slid into a housing . This thermistor , is the freezer thermistor , which tells the control board , the freezer temp , when to cycle off , associated with the fan speed also .

The freezer isn't making alot of ice. Can the hose behind the ice maker freeze?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

When a refrigerator slows down ice production it is usually the result of poor air-flow through the evaporator coils. The poor air-flow is due to ice build up on the evaporator coils. The ice build up happens because the unit is not defrosting properly or the evaporator fan is not running at full speed.

To answer your question "Can an Ice-maker tube freeze?" Yes, they can and do freeze but when they do freeze that is caused by a defective inlet water valve that is leaking water by when it is supposed to be shut off. It can freeze if some one set the temp control to MAX cold. Additionally when they do freeze and the Ice-maker cycles the plastic hose on the back of the unit pops out of the ice maker tube and each cycle starts porting ice maker fill water on the floor.

This may sound odd.. but. Perform a manual defrost by removing the freezer contents and directing a fan into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours. (Makes a water mess so do not leave it unattended) The return the unit to normal service and after 8 hours start watching the amount of ice produced. (Should be normal for 2 days!) If after 2 days the ice production slows again you have an automatic defrosting problem that is causing the ice build up on the evaporator coils.

If you need any more assistance please include your complete model number in any future responses.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Drain hole under the evaporator coil in freezer keeps icing up

The drain may be clogged or running slow, flush some very hot water down the drain opening using a turkey baster or syringe. Here is some information I put together on drain freezing and how to clean them out in a little more detail. Let me know if this works for you. Thanks

Evaporator coil freezing, replaced main control

It is possible you have a defective fan motor in the condenser area or evaporator area. Sometimes when they become defective they will run for a while and just warm up and stop while the compressor continues to run. I learned that one on four costly returns to the home. The cost was to me not the customer. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Build in kitchenaid, freezer working but not freezing

This video I made how to change evaporator on Thermador refrigerator, which is just copy of of Build in Kitchenaid. Problem was that it was running, but ice cream never got frozen. I checked pressures, was low on freon. I checked evaporator coils - found out that defrost heater got deformed and was touching evaporator coils - so it burned holes, where freon started to leak.( I think it designed not best way). Defrost heater on this fridges way to close to evaporator coils. Check this video to get an idea what Im talking about. I hope That helps u to understand why this repair is so expensive and what causing it.

Hollow ice cubes and refrigerator freezer drip pan is freezing

The drain at the bottom of the evaporator on the freezer rear wall is blocked up. Ice may have gotten so far up the side of the evaporator that it is blocking a return air duct which is located there. You need to completely deice the freezer and then **** out and purge the drain hole on the bottom of the evapotrator with hot water and a turkey baster.

Food and water freezes but ice cream is soft

Check the door gasket seal.
Open the door for a few seconds and then close.
Immediately open the door again, and, if sealing properly, it should take more pulling force to open the door.
