How do I align the HP Laserjet 1020 to print straight? Its printing crooked every time. No two sheets are in the same position

Most likely to be a page feed problem, look online to clean page feeder rubber rollers.
Try here for the pdf manual which covers problem with jams and skewing

WILL ONLY PRINT EVERY ALTERNATE LINE OF TEXT & TEXT BOX BORDERS

Doesn't sound like your printer hardware. Try printing something other than your text document. If the page comes out clean/perfect then it means your printer is having a problem understanding your text document via print program translation. Otherwise try converting your text to pdf and print a sample page, if it works then again problem with software/printer translation.

Printing crooked, blurred, bad roller?

Sounds like when you pulled out the paper jam, you misaligned the print carriage. That would produce both the noises you hear and the print quality issues. HP.com has a few web pages on their site that might help. The first one deals with noisy print carriages. Unfortunately, it's not dedicated to just your product, but the steps should generally apply:

Resolving Noisy Print Carriage Issues

There's a separate web page available for troubleshooting crooked or skewed printouts:

Printed Text or images are Crooked or Skewed

If all else fails, unplug the power cord from the printer, wait 20 seconds or so, then plug it back in. That should restart the printer and make it go into a self test which may include a realignment procedure. Watch for any error messages on the display on the printer's control panel. Sometimes to realign, it prints out two test pages and instructs you to place the first printout on the scanner bed and then press Enter.

Go to the following web page and when it opens, scroll down to the section "Replacing the print cartridges", and find step 9 in that section for alignment instructions.

Replacing Print Cartridges

Good luck.

Basic printing, not photos

Well the paper issue should be resoved by going in through the control panel to get to the printers section where it has a button (once your on the R300's settings) where you can reset all the printer options then after that in the document in the printer settings if you go to the print screen and click the properties button (right next to the name of the printer) when the properties section come up under the quality options it should have five options, one of which is labeled text, click that one and print it should come as a regular document (you might have to re-reset the options in this screen as well before printing the document)

Canon PIXMAiP4500 printer

Select the print dvd/cd cover application, when it opens it shows the outline of the label
Select 'text' and type your text, then adapt it by font, style, size and positioning.
Can preview on the label and drag it around like a text box in MS Word
For images, select 'insert' from the menu on the screen, browse to your phots and select one, then accept it and preview/resize on the label shown on the screen
Then select 'print'
Get your cd hol;der ready, open the front of the printer, then open the flap with 'Canon' on it
Wait foir screen prompt to insert the holder, with the cd upwards facing and at the end nearest the printer
When prompted, insert it so the 'arrows' on the left and right are flush with the front edge of the flap you just folded down

Text printing now slightly larger than it used to be

Since the printer is only doing what it is told to do, it is my opionion that the data in the stream that goes to the printer has changed slightly.

Not knowing if you use 3rd party software to produce your labels, or if you manually write your code, take a look at the reference manual for programming if it is the latter and look for the opaque setting for that type and line of text. If you use a 3rd party app, you may need to contact them about the same type of setting.

This opaque type setting should allow the space around your characters to overlap without creating that box effect. Kind of like a gif with a transparent background.

Good luck

Printing crooked

As "Guest" posted on Feb 05, 2009 the problem for me was the box in the back of the printer that facilitates double sided printing. One side had come loose. I was getting "Paper Mismatch" errors, and the text was printing slanted. I simply pulled the box out and reinstalled it. Problem solved.
