Take a printout from the machine such as a phone book list/config page. Does this have print on it? If so then i suspect the person sending you the fax is loading the paper back to front on their machine. This would be true if you have the date and time on the top of an incoming fax. But if you cannot print anything then i would think you have a poor connection between the machine and the drum. Also its possible that the laser shutter has become stuck thus not allowing any laser beam to hit the drum. Look at the drum cover and on its top left edge there is a projection that passes into the machine and hits an arm that operates the shutter. Just push something in the hole and listen to see if you hear the arm move freely. It is probably stuck and just a nudge will free it.
i think may be i can help, well rick there is no reset button on brother machines,..have you tried cleaning the paper feed roller? may be some thing did print and the paper is still crumbled up in the machine. try this. cut a file folder to 8x11 and manually force feed it through the paper path, there may some thing inside the machine that might be holding a sensor down. this is the first thingwe would do as a brother tech. good luck by the way clean the rollers with denatured alcahol
when this happens, unplug machine, hold down the "stop/exit" key while plugging machine in. continue holding the stop/exit key for 5 seconds. display should return to the regular date and time screen. if it doesn't, contact brother customer support. this problem is caused by a fax stuck in memory.
