What Memory Cards will work?

I have a Pentax K100D and just got a great deal on an 8G SD memory card. Before I open the card, do you know if it will work in this camera?

You can upgrade the firmware on a lot of the K100Ds to allow the use of SDHC cards. Check the Pentax website for the download and installation instructions.

Hi,,

Unfortunately, the Pentax K100D is not SDHC compatible, which means that the camera can be equipped with a maximum memory capacity of 2GB.

It is also advisable to choose a fast version of the Secure Digital memory card, such as Ultra II or Extreme III by SanDisk. I would recommend using a memory card of at least 512MB, or even 1GB if you can.

Hope this info helps

I concur with Doctorjeff. I own that camera, and once you upgrade the firmware on the camera, you will be able to use SDHC cards. I do all the time.

My pentax K100D says there is not card in camera

What type of memory card do you have? The K100D works with SD cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

K100d wont format memory card

Make sure your new memory card is an SD card. If it's larger than 2GB then it's actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, an SDHC card will not work in devices designed only for SD cards.

I bought a 4G SD card for my K100D and it gives me a card error message, the card works fine in my wife's Canon compact.

The K100D works with SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While SDHC cards fit into SD slots, they will not work in devices not designed for SDHC. Apparently your wife's Canon is newer and SDHC-compatible.
The K100D is limited to SD cards, which max out at 2GB.

I have a pentax optio 550. I put a new 8G card in and get a message: Memory card error. I tried formatting and if I did that right it didn't cure it. Any ideas?

Your camera, which came out in 2003, was never designed to use the new SDHC cards. You can only use SD cards up to 2gb.

The camera is saying "memory card full" or "image not stored". Of course we have taken all photos off card so it isn't full, and also have tried 2 other memory cards , but to no avail! Not sure what else...

Hi have you tried to reformat the memory card in the camera. Sometimes if you reformat it in the computer the camera does not like it. Also make sure your camera uses either an SD card or a SDHC card. Also make sure the lock on the side of memory card is off. Lastly get a rubber and try cleaning terminals where memory card meets the camera do camera as well as memory card. If all this fails go to website and look for any updates, you may be able to update firmware. Hope one of these work. Best Regards ALex

Memory Card reads full when empty ? Pentax kd 200

Ok, first you mak have a fake card. The capacity of the card is coded into the card and fake cards often lie about their capacity.

If you know the card is not fake, then reformatting the card should clear it. You can do this in the camera. (Check the manual for instructions.) Or if you have an SD card reader that plugs into the USB port of your PC, you can download a SD card formatter for free. (The official SD card standard site has these.)

Can I use Standard 4G or 8G SD or Cf cards in a Dell Axim X5?

SD cards must be SD not SDHC, there is not an SDHC driver for the X5. You can find regular SD cards up to 4G.

CF is no problem, all flash based CF cards will work. Microdrives can be problematic.

My pentax k100d has a memory card error

Trun the camera off and remove the batteries. Leave it for at least a minute before inserting the batteries. Put the car in and turn the camera on.

The firmware in these cameras can get confused. Removing the batteries for a minuite or two will allow the camera circuits to discharge and so it will reset from start when powered-up again.

If this does not work then the camera may need to be sent away for repair. This need not be expensive it could be as simple as re-programming the camera. (Their program memory is writeable and so it can be accidentally altered under certian circunstsances. It may be possible to do this yourself using the downloadable firmware upgrade, but I would let someone else try thet first!)

However, it is just possible that the new card is also faulty!

Check the cards in your PC by obtaining a SD card reader to allow you to plug it directly into your PC.

For reference I would always recommend inserting and removing memory cards with the camera turned off. I would also use the SD card reader to load the images into the PC. Unplugging devices form the USB port can be harmful to some devices. Check the bottom right of your PC screen for an 'safe unplug' icon when things are plugged in.
