Download VLC (google it) for free, see if that plays the dvd. Most likely your player has an issue, VLC plays ANYTHING (pretty much!) without issue.

If that doesnt work then you'll have a problem with the actual drive.

I think that Teac DV-28e Is a CD/DVD-ROM only, and will not burn discs. Teac DW-28e is a CD RW/ DVD ROM unit, and will thus play and burn CDs, but will only play DVDs. Check your model numbers to confirm, and then consider exchanging units if you need to burn CDs.

It is only compatable for CD RW.
Not DVD RW.

decoder usually means software also called a "codec" those are either automatically installed by windows or manually. If what you are getting ie no video (black player window) but do hear sound then this is your problem.

I use the K-lite codec pack and have yet to find something I can't play. There are others as well. You can download any of the packages at
http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm The basic one is all you need but the other bigger versions include a few extras. Install, reboot and you should be fixed.

TEAC DW-224E-A DRIVER

Here's the newest driver for your burner. Go to Control Panel, then Device Manager, then click on the + symbol next to disk drives, and double click on the TEAC device. Click the Driver tab and press Update Driver, then choose the 'Let me find the driver' option, and navigate to the folder where you unzipped the file to. Double click and Install. Reboot.

For burning, I would recommend Nero, Alcohol 120% or ImgBurn.

Assuming you have tried different makes of cd or dvd disks, it's a classic drive failure problem where the laser can no longer burn, but may still be able to read cd's only. You will have to replace the drive, they are quite inexpensive, about £30.00 or $60 US and very easy to fit.
