My DVD/VHS player won't work. The VHS side is fine, picture, sound, everything. The DVD part, however, only works for sound, while the screen just has white text over a blue background saying "PROGRESSIVE SCAN MODE". I don't know how to turn it off so I can get a picture. Please help.
A simple solution that works with electronic items many times, so give it a try. Turn Off your player, un-plug the electrical supply, wait about 2 minutes then re-connect the electricity and turn on the player. Many times this will force the machine to reset itself. This technique can be used for ALL electroinc devices.

Sure that's easy, I read this in the manual:

(Page 18 - Progressive Scan Section)
All you have to do is:
1. Remove the disc in the DVD/VCR.
2. Press and hold the STOP button for 5 seconds before releasing it. (Note that this is the stop button which is physically on the player.)
And that should pull you out of Progressive Scan Mode.

I had the same problem once and the solution is to reboot the DVD player. to do this you need to unplug the unit for 3 or more minutes and then you will have to go through the setup process again but everything should work fine and interlaced (not progressive) should be the dvd format again.
