Disassembly instructions for Canon printer model i860

I have a Canon i860 printer that needs a new purge unit & I have both the OEM service manual as well as the IPB. However, neither provide any detailed instructions the disassemble sequence to follow. Can anyone give me some help on this, or are there any web sites that have some detailed disassembly information that I can download??

Thanks,
Mainsailor

The are two slots on each side of the printer. Insert a flat blade screwdriver and push. It should release the catch. Do it for both sides of the printer. You may also have to ubscrew the two (2) screws that hold the unit that holds on/off paper switches.

Do your work and then press top unit down and it will rengage with the catches.

I have 3 units and one won't return the ink carridge to the center position to replace ink cart. So I remove top replace carts and all is well.

Works for me!

I have a Canon W8200 and i get the error code"

Hello,
Try this:
1) As an error (E02802 or E02805 to E02809) is shown on the display, install the correct
combination of printhead and ink tanks according to the error.
2) Perform ink filling*3 following the installation sequence. After filling ink, when "Load Roll
Media" is shown on the display, turn off the power.
3) Turn on the printer while holding down the ONLINE button, ENTER button, CANCEL button,
and PAPER SOURCE button.
4) Check that "Canon W8200" is shown on the display, and then release the buttons. When
printer enters Reset mode for the dye/pigment model setting, all the LEDs on the operation
panel turn on.
5) "TYPE RESET" is shown on the display.
6) Select "YES", and then reset the dye/pigment model setting in the printer.
When reset is selected, the ink drain sequence is executed. It takes approximately 4
minutes for the process to be completed.
7) Check that "Turn Power Off!!" is shown on the display, and then turn off the power.
8) Unplug the power cord from the outlet.
9) Move the carriage, and then takeout the printhead.
10) Replace the following parts
• Ink tube unit : See "Part 5: 5.2.6 Ink tube unit".
• Purge unit : See "Part 5: 5.2.9 Purge unit".
• Ink tank unit : See "Part 5: 5.2.10 Ink tank unit".
11) Turn on the printer, and then continue with the installation operation (from installation of the
printhead). At this time, replace the printhead with a new one*4.

Printer stopped working. I just added new ink supply. Alarm light flashes. Printer status says "service error 6A00"--"check printer" "cancel printing and press the ok button." None of this works. And I...

Hi
Error 6A00
The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.

Solution 1:
Move the printhead carriage back and forth a few times.

Solution 2:
Check the purge unit: Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.

Solution 3:
Press the ink pads down in the purge unit.

Hi there

This answers with a titch more detail.
The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.

Some where in the paper path a sensor is activated indicating paper jam so the printer will give off a 6A00 code.
As a Canon tech, I usually find the code, almost 90% of the time, is related to the purge unit being jammed with something and not being able to move.
Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.

And yes I have found all those things in a purge unit.
The offending item needs to be removed or the purge unit needs replacement.
Incidentally, the 6A00 error pertains to all Canon printers made in the last several years, its not just used in one model.

And it’s always a paper path error or purge unit.

The purge unit, called a spittoon assembly in an HP, Lexmark, and other inkjet printers, is where the print head assembly parks when not in use, also its other job is to clean and make sure the print head is clean and open for printing.

That is where you'll find the print head assembly parked on top of it.
It also has an electrical pump to milk the print heads and test for ink flow.

So clean all under where the heads are parked and on IP6600D models you can take out the heads just by clipping them out, and then clean well.

Also clean the purge unit out make sure all is clean.

After deep cleaning the print heads, it will only print one page

This sounds like the print head alignment is not stabilized and may indicate you need a new print head ($$$). Try looking in the Service Manual.

CANON i860 PRINTER - ERROR SIGNALS

hi i am a certified Canon tech for a repair shop on the east coast of the united states. by what u are describing the problem seem to be with the purge unit that it is not spining to release the carridge unit. this could be due to something stuck in the purge unit or in its gears. if you take the top cover off the machine on the right side is the purge unit towards the back of the unit is a white release that has to be pushed down inorder to move the carridge unit. once that is released you can look into the purge and check for things jammed in the gears or obstructing the up and down operation of the purge pad and the back and forth operation of the wiper assy. if everything looks normal the purge unit most likely is still at fault and can be purched for 30-40 dollars plus shipping.

I860 won't print properly

Buying a new printhead is a mighty good suggestion, it seems you have pretty well used up the maximum service life of your printhead, if i'm not mistaken. Try to reinstall your printer along with its software. Go to settings>control panel > remove hardware> then, reboot. After, rebooting, re-install your printer software and drivers.
