Disassembly instructions for Canon printer model i860

I have a Canon i860 printer that needs a new purge unit & I have both the OEM service manual as well as the IPB. However, neither provide any detailed instructions the disassemble sequence to follow. Can anyone give me some help on this, or are there any web sites that have some detailed disassembly information that I can download??

Thanks,
Mainsailor

The are two slots on each side of the printer. Insert a flat blade screwdriver and push. It should release the catch. Do it for both sides of the printer. You may also have to ubscrew the two (2) screws that hold the unit that holds on/off paper switches.

Do your work and then press top unit down and it will rengage with the catches.

I have 3 units and one won't return the ink carridge to the center position to replace ink cart. So I remove top replace carts and all is well.

Works for me!

How to clean the purge unit on Canon MP530 when error 6A00 is on?

Canon MP530 6A00 Purge Unit

It is very difficult to get at the insides of the MP530 because of the Auto document feeder and the scanner. Once you open the top cover to typically change the inks, there is very limited space to get at the purge unit.

Open the cover and when the head comes to the center pull out the power cord. Now you can freely move the head to the far left and out of your way. The Purge unit is on the right. Use a flashlight and you will see two ink pads. This is where the printhead is PARKED,.. and is the top of the Purge unit. There are wiper blades that move from the rear to the front that wipe the bottom of the printhead when it is parked (The ink pads actually drop down about 3/4" to allow the wiper to pass,..then it supposed to SPRING back to the rear. All of this, and the ink suction for cleaning the printhead is done by the purge unit,... one of the most complex parts of the printer.

Use some rubber gloves and a paper towel and see if you can press the ink pads down just a little bit, like 1/4". See if for some reason the wiper blade is stuck extended,.. if so see if you can get it unstuck. Don't force anything, just be gentle.

The error you are getting is telling you that the purge unit is not giving the correct timing signal as it rotates inside 360 degrees. Therefore, something is either broken or jammed inside. If you had a paper jam and tried to forcefully pull it out, you could have pulled the internal gears out of alignment.

I can send you a picture of the Purge unit and a picture of the inside of a MP530 if you send me an email with your address. Just click on my USER ID and you can send me a direct email.

I also sell a complete Repair Manual for specific Canon, HP, and Epson printers. I don't have the MP530 yet but I do have the MP730, and the MP780, and the Service Manuals for the MP800, MP810, MP830, MP960. My Daughter has the MP530 but for some reason she won't let me take it apart. But since I'm going down there next week, I take the necessary pictures needed to get the covers off. Once the covers are off, my other manuals are good for the rest of the repair. My manuals are detailed instruction manuals with Digital pictures to show you each step to totally disassemble and repair just about anything in your printer. There are no miracles, if something is broken you can buy a new part from Canon and put it in yourself. Take it to a Canon Repair Center and any Multifunction printer will start at about $100 just to take it apart. Mine also comes with the complete Canon Service Manual(if i have them) and all Canon documentation such as Product Service Bulletins, software drivers, installations disks, User guides, and several other documents that teach you how to take care of your printer, clean the print head when they get clogged, and maintain the printer on a day to day basis such that it will last for years. In my opinion Canon Printers are the best. They are easy to fix and you can get just about every part from Canon at reasonable prices.

Hope this info helps you out.

Printer stopped working. I just added new ink supply. Alarm light flashes. Printer status says "service error 6A00"--"check printer" "cancel printing and press the ok button." None of this works. And I...

Hi
Error 6A00
The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.

Solution 1:
Move the printhead carriage back and forth a few times.

Solution 2:
Check the purge unit: Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.

Solution 3:
Press the ink pads down in the purge unit.

After deep cleaning the print heads, it will only print one page

This sounds like the print head alignment is not stabilized and may indicate you need a new print head ($$$). Try looking in the Service Manual.

CANON i860 PRINTER - ERROR SIGNALS

hi i am a certified Canon tech for a repair shop on the east coast of the united states. by what u are describing the problem seem to be with the purge unit that it is not spining to release the carridge unit. this could be due to something stuck in the purge unit or in its gears. if you take the top cover off the machine on the right side is the purge unit towards the back of the unit is a white release that has to be pushed down inorder to move the carridge unit. once that is released you can look into the purge and check for things jammed in the gears or obstructing the up and down operation of the purge pad and the back and forth operation of the wiper assy. if everything looks normal the purge unit most likely is still at fault and can be purched for 30-40 dollars plus shipping.

I860 won't print properly

Buying a new printhead is a mighty good suggestion, it seems you have pretty well used up the maximum service life of your printhead, if i'm not mistaken. Try to reinstall your printer along with its software. Go to settings>control panel > remove hardware> then, reboot. After, rebooting, re-install your printer software and drivers.

No 'clay' colour. canon pixma i 4200

I'm afrade I don't know what you mean by "Clay Colour".

For a Canon, usually you have Black, Magenta, Cyan and Yellow and you MAY have Photo Magenta and Photo Cyan depending on the machine.

Print out a test page and tell me what colour is missing from that page (compair it to the one in your owners manual or the driver).

Usually a missing colour is caused by a clogged head. Use the cleaning function over and over (try at least five times). If still not working, either the head is very badly clogged, has gone bad, or the purge unit is not working. Please make sure you are using OEM ink cartridges, as I have seen refill ink cause this exact problem.'

Try soaking the bottom of the head in water overnight (not the entire head, just the bottom part). If this does not work, you will either have to replace the head or disassemble and clean the purge unit. I'd start by cleaning the purge unit since it's free. If you're not sure, call your local service provider. They can test it using a known good head but it's likely not a free service.
