HD Video Capture Problem Hi, I am not very familiar with the sony HDR-HC3 camera and video capture. I need your help in video capturing HD to my pc, I have do everything by the book but it still does not work! to simply the process I created a figure (link below) which explains the hold process and what hardware I have. If you have the time to take a look and find a solution I will be very greatful for this as all my family moments are at risk. The problem I think lays in the PC not the camera or software. It maybe is the i.Link cable but it's listed in device manager (see link) but not in the taskbar area! is there some option in my pc hardware or DOS setup for this! 1) Do I need to install camera pulg-in drivers for the HDR-HC3 camera! 2) Do I need a video capture card for the HDR-HC3 camera! http://www.my-rv.org/fig.jpg thank again, stewart

Which software package are you using? My brother was able to solve the HD capture problem by using Adobe After Effects.

I searched under HDR-HC3 firewire driver and got the above link.

It says the following:

Hi..

The problem was a missing MSDV.SYS file.

Thanks

Actually, on the Sony site it says that no additional drivers are required to connect the camera in Windows XP, Vista, or 7.

But, the user of this camera and firewire noted that he was having trouble convincing windows of this.

Another link that talks about the firewire problem follows:

You can find more links by searching under 'HDR-HC3 firewire driver' or related searches to find the solution to your problem.

I hope this helps.

Sony analogue Hi8 Handycam as a security camera

Hi!

You need to have things with you before you can proceed to use it as a security camera. As your's is a analog camera we will require a video capture card connected with your pc/laptop.

After you have one connect that with your pc and pTo get the video into your computer, you need a analogue to digital video capture card....otherwise, connect the camcorder to a CD or DVD player/recorder, and use the CD/DVD as a source for your video editing... Otherwise, you need a later model of SONY "Digital 8" digital camcorder which plays analogue tape, and with this your computer can capture the video via firewire

For details on how to record using a software and video capture card please look at this link---

Sound is not recorded

The problem would appear to be your audio settings.

You have the audio input set to Realtek HD Audio Input. That is the audio input on your soundcard, not the video capture card. You will need to change this so that you have the capture card selected. (I am not familiar with this exact model of card so I can't tell you exactly what it will be called.)

Alternatively, if you are trying to capture the audio via your soundcard (not recommended as it can cause sync problems) you will need to make sure that the 'line in' channel in enabled in the Windows mixer:

Start>Control Panel>Sounds & Audio Devices>Audio Tab>Click Volume in sound recording section>Tick Line In

Hope this helps,

Matt

Would like to know if I can hook it up to a computer?

You need to have an analog capture card on your PC, so that the analog video be converted to digital, if its already on your hard disk(video data, you can record it to disk or whatever you want(share, upload etc.). But its a tricky one, you should be familiar with video formats, AVI, MPEG etc, there are cards that can capture directly to MPEG, but in order to minimize data loose, capture it in AVI format, edit, render then burn to disk. IF your familiar with PC operations, just follow the instructions of the capture card that you will install. You can do some experiments as long as you already have the hardware.thanks

Sony HDR-HC3 camera won't connect in HD mode in iMovie HD or FCP HD

What software are you using to capture the HD footage? Are you using the supplied software, or another package. It is likely that you have a software incompatibility. i.e. windows will recognise DV natively, but HDV requires specific codecs and software installed on your PC.
