Hello, You may have a broken or stretched belt. The machine could also be clogged. Here is a link that will take you to a site that will show you how to open up your vacuum to look for clogs and to change belt.
replace the belt, it is so stretched that it is slipping on the beater bar when it comes in contact with the carpet. it takes the 38528-040 belt. i think its 5 screws on the bottom to gain access to beater bar and belt.
If you go to this link you will find the belt you are looking for and you can also view the manual, which has step by step instructions on how to change the belt. Good luck!
This model requires the lower end of the hose to be installed into the base unit to pick up the dirt. If it is properly installed, I would check the belt and also look for a blockage. The normal life span of a belt is about 9-12 months. your belt # 40201190 2 pk
No. if the wrong belt you will have problems. This is a common belt for Hoover, it used to be 36528027, but the number changed to the 36528040, also 40201190 is the newest number for this belt. Most repair vacuum repair shops should have this belt. You order it online at http://vacuumsuperstore.com/hoover_belts.html
Don't ignore your instincts. If you think it smells like a scorching belt, you're probably right.
Check that the pulley the belt is meant to spin is free to turn. If it isn't, find out why and then sort that out.
