The following site tells you how to reset mp150/mp160 errors:

http://printertools.blogspot.com/2007/10/canon-mp150-reset-codes.html

This just resets the error message - it does not remove excess ink from the waste tank!

SOURCE: My Canon Pixma MP780 has

Hi,

The reset procedure for the same is explained below :-

The absorber is a small sponge like pad inside the machine underneath the ink cartridge cradle. It sits underneath the cradle when the cradle is all the way to the right inside the machine. To fix this problem that pad needs to be replaced. Some machines will have a tank instead of the sponge. It is located in the same place. To fix that you would sinply need to remove it and then empty out the tank. There is no step by step guide to do this you would need to dissasemble the entire machine if it is a tank and not a sponge. If this is the first time it has ever occurred you can simply reset the error as there are normally 2 tanks. To reset it follow these steps.

1) Press the following keys in sequence: Copy-Menu-Scan-Copy-Scan.
The display will say:
SERVICE MODE
#1 SSSW

2) Press the > key (also labeled +) six times.
The display will say:
SERVICE MODE
#7 PRINTER

3) Press OK.
The display will say:
#7 PRINTER
#1 SSSW

4) Press the > key (also labeled +) four times.
The display will say:
#7 PRINTER
#5 INK ABS CAPA

5) Press OK.
The display will say:
SUCTION
XX (where XX is how full the waste ink tank is as an integer percentage)

6) Change the XX to 0 by entering 0.
The display will say:
SUCTION
0

7) Press OK.
The display will momentarily say:
SUCTION
DATA ENTRY OK
and then will quickly change to:
#7 PRINTER
#6 CDR ADJUST

8) Press the Stop/Reset button

If that doesn't resolve the problem, you need to get the printer serviced for the same.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Error message "service required...parts inside

This is a very common problem and is basically your printer reaching a point where an internal counter has tripped. The primary reason for this is the printer has guesstimated that the waste pads are now full and need changing.

Resolving it is pretty simple...

You can either take it to a service centre (assuming they'll be able to service one as old as the R220) and get them to handle it for you.

OR..

Do some searching on the subject of fitting an external waste ink tank. You'll also need to reset the waste ink counter which can be handled using the A10_IPR utility that Epson released for North American customers some time back.

For more information on your specific printer along with instructions on how to fit an external waste ink tank this link should help.

"The waste ink absorber is almost full" message?

This applies to the CANON PIXMA MP130 and other ink-jets made by Canon/Pixma.

According to the user's manual, "Ink used to clean the print head is absorbed by the waste ink tank. When this message is displayed, the waste ink tank needs to be replaced, or the machine requires maintenance". There is no information about how to replace or empty the waste ink tank.

In any case, you can try the following to clear up the error, but eventually you'll need the waste tank to be emptied or replaced. And as far as I know, you can't find the replacement parts to buy, nor the instructions to empty the waste tank.

Turn on your MP130.
1) After that press: Menu - Scan - Copy - Scan or Menu-Copy-Scan-Copy-Copy in some models, it depends on the date it was produced)
2) Select TEST MODE.
3) Enter NVRAM ACCESS
4) Select SET ABS-M LEVEL TO 0
5) Select OK
6) Keep selecting OK untill you leave the TEST MODE

Then turn it OFF and again ON. Check if the error message is still there.
The following is taken from the Canon website, regarding this specific error:

"Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset. Be aware that if you attempt this procedure, it is at your own risk."

As I mentioned before, I have not found any way or procedure to empty or replace the waste ink absorber nor the necesary replacement part.

I own a canon w8200 pigment large format printer. I replaced two cartridges, Magenta and Yellow. The printer did a nozzle check that seemed to take too long. I then received a 'waste ink tank full'...

<Remedy>
1.Waste ink absorber
Use SERVICE MODE>COUNTER>PRINTER>W-INK to check the waste ink
absorber. Replace if the waste ink level is near the limit (14400).
After replacing the tank, perform SERVICE MODE>INITIALIZE>W-INK.

Message "wasted ink tank near full" on Canon Multipass F80

Inkjet printers have a fibrous pad inside them that collects the waste ink from cleaning the print head. Over time, this pad fills up with ink and can no longer hold any more. When this occurs, the printer indicates a "waste ink tank full" error.

Replacing the waste ink absorption pads is something an authorized canon service facility can take care of for you. Once they are replaced, it'll be functional again.

Where is a waste ink i have error message says WASTE INK NEAR FULL help me on that, thanks

I have had this problem. There is a counter in your printer that must be reset to move on. The ink tank may not be full, but the counter estimates it is full (and maybe it is an instruction to you to buy a new Canon printer), and to actually empty the ink tank would be an uneconomical task. How do you do it, there are a number of helpers here so Google: MP730 waste ink near full.
