First out make sure you understand how refridgerators work. The freezer actually cools the refridgerator by means of the fan in the freezer. Check for ice build up on the freezer wall, if you have that you have a defrost problem, and should call a tech unless your handy them just use your model number, go to apdepot.com and enter the information and you will get an illistrated parts breakdown. Defrost timer, bi-metal or defrost thermostat and defrost heaters are the three parts of that system. Also now you could have something blocking airflow, a faulty cold control thermostat, or the fan in the freezer just may not be running at all.
The only place that cools in a refrigerator is the freezer. The refridgerator side stills cold from the freezer via an air duct that runs from the freezer to the refridgerator. If your fan in the freezer compartment is not working your refridgerator side will not work. To replace the fan you will need to clean out the freezer including the shelving. Then remove the back panel all you need is a phillips screw driver. When the back is replaced the fan is at the top. It is held in by two screws that go threw rubber mounts on the fan braces. You will need to remove one ground wire and two electric wires on the motor its self. Make sure to unplug the refrigerator before starting the repair. good luck
The problem is probably the defrost heater . This model is at least 12 yrs. in age . Pt # WR51X442 is the part number for the heater and harness kit . These parts are located behind the inside rear lower freezer panel . First , make sure the freezer fan is working . If not Pt # WR60X10008 is the freezer fan motor .
SOunds like the circulating fan is wearing out. This fan supplies the circulation for both the freezer and refrigerator. When this fan starts to wear out the air that is supplies to the freezer and the refrigerator is reduced to a point that the freezer will remain cold but the refrigerator is not. This fan assembly cost around $300.00 to repair/replace. Eventually it will completely stop.
In the Freezer or Fridge compartment, there is the Evaporator Fan (& Motor) If the freezer is cold, the Evaporator fan motor most likely went bad. Check to see that when the compressor is running, so should be the fan motor. If not, you have to remove it & replace it. It is not an expensive repair unless you call for service on it. Make sure that you unplug the fridge when you replace the fan motor.
Listen for a fan running when you open the freezer door. May have to hold the light switch closed for it to come on. If you don't hear it then the fan is most likely bad. The evavorator fan motor is the most common repair on the trio's
