How to test an infared remote control device

How can I tell if my remote is working? You could invest in an infared detector pen or device that will detect the infared signal or you could use a common cellphone with camera mode. Place the phone in camera mode and hold the remote up to the camera lens. By depressing the buttons on the remote now you can actually see the emitted infared light slowed down to a visable light, thereby determining that any or all buttons of the remote are functioning properly.

How does a gas detector work?

work by signifying high levels of gases through a series of audible or visible indicators, such as alarms, lights or a combination of signals. While many of the older, standard gas detector units were originally fabricated to detect one gas, modern multifunctional or multi-gas devices are capable of detecting several gases at once. Some detectors may be utilized as individual units to monitor small workspace areas, or units can be combined or linked together to create a protection system.

does not signal when police are near

Hi there,

This device is designed to detect radar and coherent light emissions on frequencies employed by remote speed measurement equipment.

If laser, the measurement equipment, must be in line of sight during an emission. If radar, detection of residual emissions can be made even in stand-by and from much greater distances. These are the ones you are more likely to ID in time to slow down.

Once you have been 'painted' by a laser, it's already too late.

As far as signaling when police are near, any ability to do this is by association only with the above stated equipment.

If there is another problem or your device is malfunctioning in some way, please resubmit the problem with a more detailed description of the problem.

Best regards
Mike

The infra red receiver and detector on my model 65XWX20B projection tv is working intermittently and I think it needs replacement.

Bad batteries and/or clips making poor contact are suspect. The actual detector and transmitter are pretty reliable.

Another possibility is an inteerfering signal such as wireless infared headphones which the transmitter emits continuously. Also a wireless mouse/keyboard could interfere with the signals and effectively block the control from your remote.

IR detector

An infared detector is just a transistor that is covered with clear plastic.
matching the spec on it though is hit or miss.
first be sure it is not the ir trasmitter, take it to radio shack and see if their infared re-transmitter broadcaster sees it . or aim at a digital camera
or hold near a radio though that only hears the digital part.
radio shack has some iR transistors in stock usually .
basically you can just plug one in and it may work but you may have to know how to bias (balance ) the transistor to work correctly.
there are many places to scrounge a ir receiver transistor
old tvs , learning remotes, laptops , printers ,
you can inject the output signal of the remote into the ir circuit to see if it is working but you need to add a resistor and drop the voltage a bit.
hope that helps some.

troubleshoot

You should try to find out what type of radar devices your police uses.ESD7000 model does not support some devices such as Ku band radar signal, but it should detect all laser signal.Laser signal is often jammed by sun light. If your police uses radar detector detectors VG2 it will force your detector to hide from it making it invisible for detecting.Try talking to someone who has other type of detector that works in your town.It is possible that you will be forced to buy another model.
