AVR 130 Harman Kardon amber light will not switch to blue when pushed after being in standby mode for a long time - I have tried the reset instructions per manual ;unit will not reset - therefore the unit is inoperable - HELP!
There is an internal reset switch mounted on the transformer board. Open the unit, look at the boards attached to the transformer, the pushbutton is facing up. Measure the voltage on the 2 pins of the switch. If it is a logic low, the switch is partially shorted. Replace the switch or just cut the jumper wire just below thw switch. When this switch fails, it constantly resets the receiver and stops it from powering up. It does not fix a protection mode problem.
Thank you so much for this. I found this to be the problem in my AVR230 I sprayed contact cleaner in switch and seems to be OK. The jumper you speak about is it under the switch running vertical? Cutting this jumper takes switch out of circuit? I would like to take switch out of circuit or replace it. Thank You for your help.
Cutting the jumper takes the switch out of the circuit. I don't remember if it is a vertical jumper. Follow the soldered connection from the switch. Cut the jumper that is connected to it.
It is indeed a vertical jumper and cutting it solved the issue I had where it would power up for short periods of time, shut down and then not power back up. In my case, the unit never went into "protection", it simply shut down and went into standby mode and all setting were lost. Thanks for the heads up for this quick fix.
This switch has caused problems many times, where it would not power on at all. I was able to clean it many times and fixed it. Well the switch finally shorted out. Tried cleaning to no avail. Cut the jumper and my AVR230 is singing again. Love this receiver. Ivan a special thank you to you. I wonder how many AVR2XX,3XX that went to the trash because of this problem. A very simple fix. This was used on all models I believe to at least the AVR245, 345 series maybe the 247, 347 and possible the 254,354 too. Another great sounding product from HK.
WOW, it worked!! - Popped the cover of my AVR130 and located the switch. (easy to see it is facing up to the side of the main transformer).
I carefully measured the voltage of the switch pins while the unit was plugged in and it measured < 1volt DC. This voltage reading is a logic low, as stated (logic low is 0-1.5vDC, logic high would be +3.5 - 5vDC).
I unplugged the unit and carefully snipped the jumper wire located directly below the switch, there are 2 vertical jumpers but I cut the one directly below the switch, not the one near the edge of the board. plugged the unit back in and VOILA! powers up and responds to the remote. Thanks for the tip!!
Pyram Axis: i have the same issue-HK AVR130, ON and OFF sometimes. i pinpointed the switch, BUT DID NOT SEEN the jumper wire. is it HARD WIRE? or just imprinted/etched on pcb?

It sounds like you may have a problem in the output stages, and there fore the unit has gone into protection shutdown mode. This is not something you will be able to repair your self, and it should be brought to a good shop for proper service.
Good luck.

Good Afternoon!! This jumper runs vertical below switch about an inch long? If I cut jumper it takes the switch out of the circuit? I might want to do this as switch is flakey I am pretty sure. Thank You very much for yor help in this matter.
My Harman Kardon AVR 132 does not turn power on (amber light does not turn to blue)and stays on standby mode. Tried to reset as per the owner's manual instructions but nothing happened. Any similar problems solved?
change the resistance fuse 47 ohm on transformer board if you test them and is more then 0.5 is burn
