For Ichand-
> then you are going to need either a LCD inverter or new LCD. They are not too hard to swap out, the inverter costs about $15,it is mounted in the lid, below the LCD, and the replacement LCD about $80.
Didn't you mean backlight rather than LCD?
Take an angled look at the screen with the unit turned on; if you see a 'ghost' image, the LCD itself is functioning, only the fluorescent backlight or its inverter is toast.

Hi:
One thing to try is to connect your Inspiron up to an external monitor. You can plug in any kind of monitor, but you might have to toggle to the external mode:
Hold down your function key, then hit the LCD/CRT key. If you have a good display on an external monitor, then you are going to need either a LCD inverter or new LCD. They are not too hard to swap out, the inverter costs about $15,it is mounted in the lid, below the LCD, and the replacement LCD about $80.

NO PICTURE CAN HEAR SOUND BUT SCREEN BLACK

If the picture faded over time and then went out completely....you have a bad digital main board. Hope this helps.

Presario 1200 locks up and the screen fades to white

Sounds like the machine is overheating. Check to see if the cooling fan is working properly and comeing on at regular intervals. It could just need a good cleaning. I had a similar machine with the same problem, turned out to be a hair wrapped in the fan. Your's may or may not be this simple, you may need to replace the fan. If this doesn't fix it let me know and we'll take a different approach.

Inspiron 6000 black screen

I think your talking about your screen fading out.
This is normal. LCD screens do slowly fade out over time. They have a life span.....If this is indeed the problem, then you have 2 choices.

1) Get the screen replaced.
2) Get a new laptop.

My advice would be getting a new laptop as the prices are getting lower every day. Most likely this is the cheaper option.
