No new camera is required, you have just changed the settings and it can be modified if you just calmly go through the manual given to you by the manufacturer.

Unfortunately no. You can get better video if you turn off auto focus and set the zoom position to the halfway mark . This set up will significantly improve your results.
Different scene modes allow for different functions. I rarely use them due to this. You have to set the scene mode to take a normal photo. Meaning in Fireworks scene mode you cannot take macro photos because the lens is focused to infinity already and is locked this way.
You also may have some problems with material in your lens. (I am not sure) If you get your scenes straightened out and it still does not work I would suggest searching for lens error and look for solutions there.
Press the reset button on the bottom of the camera. Then power the camera off, and power it back on again. "I
have a DSC-P50 and was encountering the same problem. I went in to the
camera set-up mode with the memory stick removed and changed serveral
options (Don't remember which ones, although I do remember trying to
change the "Format" setting) When I re-inserted the memory stick, the
camera worked. Hello marion.... Rutn the camera on and open up the menu. Find the reset function and reset the camera. All that does is reset it to the factory settings, the settings it had when you first took it out of the box. In most instances this will fix the problem. If it does, great. If not, take it or send it into a Nikon repair shop. Opening it up your self will void the warranty. Joe
Was it recently dropped or bumped in any way? The focus and zoom motors are not activating or limiting. It could be misaligned or slipping gears. Listen for motor running as you press the appropriate function - such as manual focus or zoom. If you hear anything then the motor are running but not adjusting the lens - therefore the gear is loose and/or the motor is slipping. It must be taken apart to repair.
The F/stop isn't supposed to change when you focus. Depending on the camera, you change the f/stop by either turning the aperture ring on the lens or turning a command dial on the camera body.
