Hold power and home button until the phone shuts itself off. Once it comes back on it would be reset. Plug it into your computer to see if it connects to iTunes. If it does, then it will either A) work or B) not work. If it still doesn't work, try to do a factory reset with iTunes, or consult an Apple genius at the Apple store (or call them).
Don't forget to plug in the power. And again, press home button and on / off switch, till it switches off. Then press the on / off button, till the Apple logo comes back, then release the button. It can take up to a minute, before the screen comes on.
You could try to reset the iPad. Press the home button and the on / off button together and hold them till the light goes out.about 5 seconds. Then the apple logo comes back and in within one minute the starts screen should reappear.
I hope it works, because I would hate it if your grandson had to turn over his piggy bank. (Joking)
This is not a good sign and one of the most common causes with this device. I could tell you a series of troubleshoot. If that would not work, device needs to be send for repair.
Have you tried a hard reset? Hold the Home and Sleep buttons together for 10-15 seconds, until you see the Apple logo come up on the screen. You may need to do this while the phone is plugged into it's charger or a computer, so that it has power. Usually If it's stuck at that screen, and holding the buttons together for 10-15 seconds didn't help, then there's a hardware issue, and it will need to be replaced.
However, try few more steps
1. Connect to iTunes via USB. Do not disconnect for rest of these steps. iTunes may appear frozen or stuck with spinning beachball....this is okay, do not Force Quit iTunes. I tried a few times w/o it being connected to iTunes and it doesn't work. 2. Once connected, hold Home + Power until screen blinks then Apple logo comes back up. 3. Wait until Apple logo dims slightly (~5 minutes or less). Do NOT reboot until the apple logo dims. 4. Hold Home + Power again until it reboots and Apple logo comes back up. 5. After 2 min or so, the phone may vibrate once or twice. Continue waiting for the full 5 min until Apple logo dims slightly. iTunes at this stage MAY recognize the phone...do not sync or do anything in iTunes. 6. Hold Home + Power for the 3rd time until it reboots. Phone may vibrate again after 2 minutes or so. Eventually you'll break into your Home screen.
Or 1. Remove Sim Card 2. Hold in 'Home' button and 'On/Off' button together until Apple logo appears 3. Replace Sim Card 4. Hold in 'Home' button and 'On/Off' button together until normal phone screen appears.
Disconnect you phone from your pc leaving the wire connected to your phone not your pc. open itunes hold sleep wake button + home button until your screen goes blank... let go of sleep wake button and continue to hold home while plugging back into pc... should take about 15-30sec and itunes will see your phone in restore mode
IF THIS NOT WORKING
Try rebooting you phone by plugging it into the charger & turn wall socket on
If that also does not work then you need to take it the apple store.. They will replace it or service it.
slide hold switch on and off a couple of times and when hold is in off position, press and hold menu and center buttons till an apple logo appears on screen.now connect to itunes and restore...
if apple logo doesnt come up,try the procedure a couple of times...if it still doesnt come up,you will need to take it to a service station.
If it got wet, you can bring it to any Apple Store. Nine times out of ten they will replace it for $150 to $200 dollars. Unless they determine it is a manufacturers defect and you are still under warranty, then you want have to pay anything. they will usually just replace it for you.
Otherwise, you may have to pay up to $200 for a replacement.
Hope this helps...Let me know...

Try this first:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake (on top of the iphone) button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. The phone will turn off. Then, push and hold it again, until the phone comes back on.
If that doesn't work, try this:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. This will do a "hard reset" and should bring your iphone back to life!
try to restore to factory settings if not....u need a new because ur warranty should be up...(not sure)..........once the computer recognise it (disk mode) you can restore.
if a screen with an ipod comes up with x for the eyes its done for! (if cant access disk mode)
my ipod says it needs to be restored i do that and it will say it again when you are done restoreing it. Plesae help!
