If the camera hs recently been dropped it may have lens damage that requires professional repair. If it hasn't been dropped, your problem may be due to weak/worn out batteries or corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, your batteries may need to be replaced, or the camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

I bought canon sx30is from us two mnths back now problem has occured in my camera wen i start it gives lens error &shut down msg on camera comes lens eror camers shut down automatically restart...

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...
Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them.

When I turn the power on, the lens comes out then gives me lens error 0x0311, then shuts itself off and retracts the lens.

LENS ERROR, LENS COMING OUT, THEN GOES BACK AGAIN WITH A LENS ERROR SHOWING ON SCREEN

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful. Please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance.

Andrea

Lens Error

This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Lens Error

It sound like your lens is either jammed or the motor that causes the lens to open has a problem. First try spraying a can of compressed air around the lens while you turn it on. Also make sure that you are using high output batteries. Digital camera's require high capacity batteries to operate properly but if you are getting a error message then that means that the camera is turning on. Usually if you use regular batteries the camera will just cycle on and off but the lens will come out and go back in. Has this camera been dropped?

Won't work

Sounds like dirt or something is preventing the lens from opening up. Your best bet is to get a can of compressed air and a fully charged set of batteries and while the lens is oopening, spray the air into the lens opening. If after a dozen tries, then you may need to have the camera checked out. Keep in mind that the cost of a high end tech (taking apart a digital camera is about as difficult as open heart surgery!) may cost more that just buying another one.
