    MY PROGRAM WILL OPEN UP, BUT THE CAMERA DOESN'T COME ON. WHEN I GOT THE LAPTOP IT WORKED THEN JUST STOPPED, SO I WENT ON LINE AND DOWNLOADED THE PROG RAM AND NOW IT IS INSTALLED BUT I CAN'T GET THE CAMER PORTION TO COME ON.

Ok this is simple if you mean you can't record videos, you have to download a video recorder, such as cyberlink you cam

Import video is only when you have recorded a video using the webcam in a particular format and not on the fly which is what you are trying to do.

Record what you want using another application and the webcam then import the video into movie maker to edit.

Alternatively, I think you need to to go the options screen and select the default audio device. Go to control pannels and see if its there and then select the webcam as the default device for MS applications.

When I tried to open the camcorder part of the web cam, the program wouldnt open. I uninstalled and tried to reinstall without success. Do i need to install another program in order for it to work?

Some webcams and programs require additional software, although that should be installed with the webcam if things are right.

But is does not harm to check if your Java, Flash and Quicktime software are installed and up to date.
But certainly check your DirectX software, since all video applications, including webcams, use DirectX for video processing.

Try downloading the latest DirectX version and install it (Windows XP: DirectX 9.0c - Windows Vista: DirectX 10).

Select models of Acer netbooks also ship with a program "Acer Crystal EyeWebcam". This program will enable the webcam immediately after startup and can be used to test the webcam acnd take pictures.To test the webcam under Windows XP, please follow these steps:Go to Start, All Programs, then Windows Movie Maker.On the left side, click the link for Capture from video device.Select Next throughout the set up, making any file name changes or setting changes if desired.On the Capture Video screen, click on the Start Capture button You will see the video on the right with a time count up When you are done click the Finish button Click the play button on the video clip, or drag the clip to the Storyboard below.

Certain models have are shipped with Acer Crystal Eye Webcam software which enables webcam at boot. I do nto know if it is installed in your netbook.
To test the webcam running Windows XP, follow the steps below:
  1. Go to Start, All Programs, then Windows Movie Maker.
  2. On the left side, click the link for Capture from video device.
  3. Select Next throughout the set up, making any file name changes or setting changes if desired.
  4. On the Capture Video screen, click on the Start Capture button
  5. You will see the video on the right with a time count up
  6. When you are done click the Finish button
  7. Click the play button on the video clip, or drag the clip to the Storyboard below.

How to Record Webcam Video with Earlier Versions of Windows Movie Maker If you're still using Windows XP, your Windows Movie Maker version might still support capturing video from a webcam. To do this, go to your WMM Movie Tasks and then select "Capture from Video Device". Select webcam from the list of analog devices. You must also select the video input line you want to use for capturing your webcam video. Then enter a name for your captured video file and the location of the drive where you want to save it. Select your video setting preferences for the video you want to capture. To stop capturing, you can either
choose to stop anywhere during the recording session or indicate a specific time limit before the recording stops.
How to Record Video on Your Webcam with Newer Versions of Windows Movie Maker When we say newer versions, we are referring to Windows Movie Maker version 6 which comes pre-loaded with the Windows Vista system. Since Windows Vista is a pretty advanced OS, we expected the latest version of the WMM to support webcam video capture as well. It's very helpful and economical since it comes packaged with Windows Vista, and you don't have to pay the extra cost just to have that tool.
So, the next question now is, how can you record a webcam video using Windows Movie Maker 6. Actually, like we said - you can't. You won't see the "Start Capture" tool in the File Menu of your latest Windows Movie Maker.
Your best bet is to look for alternative and cheaper software that would help you capture whatever you want to record from your webcam. Or, better yet, use the software that comes with your webcam to capture video and then import it into Windows Movie Maker for editing and enhancements. If your webcam didn't come with video capture software, you're in luck because there are free software appllications available for you to download to do such tasks. Sounds like you have a driver problem, go to acer.com, download the drivers for your make and model for the cam drivers, make sure you select the right O/S.. exp Windows Vista, Windows XP.... and so forth..
