I'm getting an awful smell from my fridge. I've totaly cleaned it out there is no food left in it and scrubbed it with bleach and it still stinks. It smells up the house when I open it. I'm not sure what could be wrong

It almost smells like a dead mouse. But we've moved the fridge and there are no mice, and it is for sure coming from inside. We have cleaned the drain pan so it's not that.

Perhaps it is caused by a freon leak. Perhaps it is caused by stinky water from the drain pan. A rotten-egg-like smell may be caused by the drain pan. The smell itself may be coming from the inside the liner. Try to describe the smell to narrow the possible source.

Has an awful smell even after cleaning frige

Sometimes putting a couple of open boxes of baking soda in the fridge and freezer will help get rid of the smell. You can also scrub the interior with a solution of water and borax. If you can stand the smell of vinegar, cleaning with that will help as well..

Problem is rotten smell inside GE profile fridge. I've checked for rotten food-none; taken everything out and cleaned inside plus all shelves with added bleach in water. Smell is still there. I...

Hi, pull out the fridge and remove the back panel, and clean that area. Make sure no food is stuck under the fridge also. A rotten piece of fruit or other food, once under there, will smell until it totally decomposes. You can also mix 1/3 cup of bleach and 2/3 cup of water , and pour down drain tube (rear bottom in freezer section. Too much bleach and the smell of bleach would be circulated by the fan to the room, so be sure to add water. Finally, another popular methods of removing fridge odor include washing the entire fridge out with a vinegar and water solution, placing fresh coffee grinds or boxes of baking soda on each shelf and even using trays of cat litter.

Oder in freezer and refrigerator

the smell is bacteria caused by the buildup of moss from condensation.switch off unit do a complete defrost,( leave the doors open).wipe out the interior with chlorine bleach(the smell will go in about an hour or so)syringe the drain with bleach and then dry thoroughly.after drying switch on and leave to settle for 24 hours to regain operating temp(fridge +2/5c...freezer -18c)then refill with food, covering any open dishes.try to fill all drawers in freezer with food and any spare space fill with screwed up newspaper.
use a toothbrush to get into door seals/corners DO NOT USE HEAT/SHARP OBJECTS TO DEFROST.use towels in bottom to soak up all the water....

Bad smell old food in unpluged refridge

The smell has permeated the plastic, set a fresh box of baking soda in the fridge. Give it a few days and clean it with awesome or murphys oil soap. You can also use comet cleanser but if to much rubbing will scratch the plastic.

Our Kenmore Coldspot has an awful odor whenever you open the door

use straight bleach on it. sponge down the whole inside with bleach and if you can leave the doors open on it to let it breathe and clear the odor out. bleach kills most smells if left on for awhile.go over it a couple of times if you have to to get rid of the smell.

Stinky clothes

I have the same problem - the clothes smell like they have been left in there for a week - stale or moldy.

It only happens with dark clothes - I have started adding color safe bleach or oxy clean and sometimes a tiny spash of bleach - it seems to have solved it.
