the LCD in screen is broken I'm afraid at least that's what it sounds like. you will have to have a screen replacement which may not be available or even be expensive.

Try reflashing the firmware for your device you can find the latest firmware and flashing utilities from the manufacturer?s website. Make sure that you back your music up first because when you do this you are setting it back to factory settings.
Creative knowledge base gives this answer for blank screen on a Zen MX:
White screens or blank screens could be easily resolved with a firmware reload. The following steps will take you through the troubleshooting steps.
Reset your player and verify if the screen is able to display its contents
Make sure that the player has fully charged battery
Finally, perform the recovery tool if the screen still does not display any contents properly through the following site:
I had a cracked screen with a Zen Vision M. Other than the screen, the player worked fine. My plans were to get the screen fixed as I thought that would be the best solution.
When I contacted Creative about a repair, they told me it was out of warranty. They wanted me to send it to them so they could assess the damages. I was told it would cost between $50-$100 depending on the problem, but would likely be the latter based on my description.
The choice is really up to you, but I bought a new mp3 player. A lot of new technology has came out since I bought this player 3 years ago, not to mention mp3 players are pretty affordable right now compared to when I last shopped.
Your Zen got bashed. or at least the screen suffered some violent movement and shifted on its moorings. To make it simple... all around the perimeter of the LCD screen, there are electrical contacts for HORIZ and VERT signals which come thru tiny ribbon cable (looks like copper colored ribbon but actually is flat mylar with wire laminations inside) anyway, these are either socketed, soldered or have pressure contacts which make the connection and give you colors in the right places. The connector for an entire HORIZ row came loose, got bent or broke. The only fix is to locate it and either resolder it (difficult without a 'needlepoint soldering iron), reshape that single contact so the right part of the display (HORIZ connection cable) touches its pad again, or replace the display,, socket, or its cabling. I have one with bad HDD but everything else is OK (Display too) which I can sell you cheap. All you'd have to do is pull your HDD, install it in my old Zen, and go.
