Had same problem,a build up of ice around fan. fan blades hitting ice makes a whirring noise then the fan jams and fridge starts to warm up. It seems that the defrosting water can't run away so I have tilted my fridge slightly backwards to enable the water to run away and I've had no problems since.

If it wobbles when turning free, the bearings are probably wore out. If they get dry due to no lubrication they will whine while running. May just need a new fan motor.
