My father's TV is doing the same thing, however the picture is still working. You can see the picture but there are vertical green/red lines going through the entire screen. I tried an alternate source (DVD) instead of the digital cable box and go the same thing. Can anyone help???

Line faults & possible causes to LCD & Plasma screen are given with illustrations. You can get an idea about the fault to an extent. Faults to all LCD & Plasma screen are similar, irrespective of its brand and screen size.
If this tv vertical colors lines problems happen by itself,tv problems not causes by u or an object by hitting forces to the tv LCD screen panel itself. The tv board that call the T-CON board it is dead, this board sit in the bottom in the middle of the LCD screen panel.Must be replaced the T-CON board to solve tv vertical colored vertical lines.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole new refurbish T-CON board for the replacement. If causing by u or an object by hitting forces it to the LCD screen panel itself. The tv not worth a whole tv anymore, because by replacing the tv LCD screen panel will cost the same as a new tv.
This problem is down to the actual LCD or plasma screen, if this shows as the screen warms up and stays on then the screen will need to be replaced, you should go back to your retailer (not manufacturer) and report this problem, depending on the store and how long you have had the tv, the tv can be replaced for a like for like tv at store as this is not a cheap standard repair.
If you are comfortable working inside the set and can solder, try resoldering both the vertical IC and the input jack connections. The vertical IC will be a small flat IC attached to a heatsink with about 9-11 pins. It will be marked LA7837 or something similar.
are the colored lines all the way across the screen? with no video even menu does not show up i would say you have a bad panel take it back to the store
Had Sony KDF-E50A10 that had the same line problems after 16 months. Was fine at lunch time and when got home from work and turned it on, they were the lines. Want over $800 to fix it. Told me it was the B-Board assembly. Sony was no help. They have exteneded the warrenty on another part that works along with the B-Board but not just the B-Board itself, so probably not any more Sonys. I'm going with LCD now.
My sons TV is doing the same thing. Vertical lines and a picture behind it.
