No video in VCR mode

Prepare for the recording on the DVDRW/ R disc or the videotape. Make sure:• Insert a recordable disc and a videotape with a record tab.
Note for recording to a disc:
• Make sure that the disc is recordable.

Hit [SETUP].
Easy Setting Menu or Advanced Setting Menu will appear. If Advanced Setting Menu is displayed,
proceed to step 3.

Using [K / L], select “Advanced Setting Menu”.
Hit [ENTER].Advanced Setting Menu will appear.

For VCR to DVD duplication: • After starting VCR to DVD duplication, the picture may be distorted because of the auto tracking function. This is not a malfunction.

Using [K / L], select “VCR DVD”. Hit [ENTER].

Hit [SETUP] to exit. Make sure to select a recording speed using [REC SPEED].

Hit [PLAY B].Then hit [PAUSE F] at the point you
wish to start recording.
• Since it takes about a few seconds before the actual dubbing begins, please allow extra 5 seconds
when selecting the starting point.

Hit [DUBBING].
VCR to DVD duplication will start.

Hit [STOP C] to stop the
recording.
When you turn off the unit after setting the Dubbing Mode to DVD VCR, the setting will be set to VCR DVD automatically.
• Dubbing Mode is available only if the videotape or disc is not copy protected.
• You cannot change the output mode during VCR to DVD or DVD to VCR duplication.

For VCR to DVD duplication:
• The playback sound mode is followed by the setting of VCR playback sound mode on page 77. Set the playback sound mode to which you wish to record to the DVD.

Take the VCR remote, check VCR output settings ( scart1, scart2 , RCA) and signal format (PAL) etc

Your TV should also have a regular composite video input jack (yellow) in addition to the s-video input. Use that input instead of the s-video. The video won't be quite as clear as with s-video, but you have to work with what the combo gives you.

the only problem i have is the remote reciever works only part time. I bought aa new remote control but didn't help.what do you think the problem is.

2 TRK+/- While a tape is playing, press to manually adjust tracking
(i.e., to remove white lines from the screen).
3 0-9 Use to select channels and set menu items.
4 SKIP/F.ADV Press to skip ahead in one-minute increments, up to 5
minutes, during VCR playback. Press to advance one frame at a time in
Pause mode.
5 SHUTTLE <</>> Press the 4 and 6 buttons to scan forward and
backward at variable speeds.
6 MODE/REPEAT Press to set the Play Mode to Random or Programmed
Play. Also press to set the Repeat Mode to Title, Chapter/
Track, or A/B Repeat (DVD only).
7 ZOOM Press to zoom in at 2 or 4 times normal magnification (DVD
only).
8 100+/3D SOUND Press to select cable channels 100 and above.
Also press to activate the 3D Sound feature, which creates the illusion of
surround sound with only two speakers (DVD only).
9 DVD Press to set the remote control to operate the DVD deck.
10 MUTE Press to turn audio on or off.
11 VOL +/- Press to adjust the volume.
12 STOP J Press to stop playback.
13 REW AA In DVD mode, press to skip to the previous track. In VCR
mode, press to rewind the tape. Press and hold to scan backward during
playback.
14 REC F Press once to start recording in the VCR deck. Press repeatedly
to add recording time in 30-minute increments.
15 ARROW KEYS Y/B/A/" Press to navigate in the menu system, see
page 15.
16 SETUP/ENTER Press to display the DVD+VCR menu system and
confirm menu settings.
17 SP/SLP/TITLE Press to set the VCR record speed to SP (Standard
Play) or SLP (Super Long Play). SLP is three times longer than SP. Also
press to display DVD title menus (for discs with multiple titles only)

I am sorry to say that this does not sound like a simple solution for your problem. It is hard to be sure without examining the situation but, If the video comes on breifly and, then goes away it sounds like something is heating up and, then opening up and, disrupting your video. It could be something in the stabilization. You will need to refer this problem to a qualified repair technician. If you want to keep the TV and, since it does work in TV mode I would suggest that if you want to use the RCA type jacks to connect a VCR/DVD or what have you that you get an RF modulator to connect thru the co-ax. This way you can connect your Cable/satelite to the co-ax connector and, your VCR/DVD player to the RCA on the Modulator. These are availible at radio shack and can also be found on ebay. to turn it off select connection method 3 above and progressive scanning mode, to set the mode, set progressive to off in the display menu so that the p scan indicator light on the front panel goes out. do all of this in interface mode. you can also do this by pressing and holding PLAY > on the front of the unit for more than 5 seconds, still watch for the p scan indicator to go off. this works best when the unit is connected directly to the television.

I had a similar problem and corrected it with a solution found on another site. Try hitting the I/P button on the remote which controls whether "Interlaced" or "Progressive Scan" is used to display the image on the TV. Mine worked when "Interlaced" was used. but no picture was displayed when "Progressive Scan" was used. The I/P button toggles between the two settings.

It sounds to me without knowing the model or type unit that you may need to unplug tv AND take batteries out of remote for a few seconds, replug and start over. Hope it helps

Your unit has it seems to have developed a video problem. it could be in the video switching IC or the video processor. Its going to need a trained technician, who knows how to use an ocilliscope to find the video problem.. Good Luck
