Have 2 tough cameras new, no reciepts both daughters did not keep reciepts., both took camera in ocean, one does not turn on at all and other turns on for a few seconds,lens does not open, obvioously probably sand though have washed in clean fresh water *** per instructions.

I noticed this issue as well. I connected the camera to my mac and moved the 100image folder out of the DCIM folder and deleted all the photos-deleting took several steps as the camera had them hidden somewhere and new ones kept appearing with the old names. Once I turned the camera on, it created a new 100IMAGE folder and works normally.

I had the same problem and all I did was play around with the shutter .. I took a soft tooth pic and played around with the shutter, it seemed that salt from the ocean had crusted around the edges .. once removed the camera worked fine .. hope this helps

ps I had even bought another battery thinking it was the problem since when I connected the camera to the computer it worked, but I hadn't realized that when connected to the computer it's not able to take pictures, hence the shutter was not used ..

The problem with dropping it in the ocean is the salt. Unless something can be immediately well flushed with pure water, the salt coats and corrodes as it dries. There is no getting around that you need to take it to a serviceman for at least cleaning, possibly parts replacement if they are destroyed.

It sounds like your rechargable batteries might be bad.
Try a new set of batteries. It might be a cheap fix.

I just repaired this problem on my daughter's camera today! I took out the 4 tiny screws that hold the front cover on and discovered gunk and goo that were keeping the lens from retracting. Please note the exact position of the screws. They are different sizes. I then very carefully cleaned all the residue using Q-tips dipped in rubbing alcohol. It worked perfectly! Just like new.

I would definitely try a new battery first, and before you do that you should clean the battery contacts. If this doesn't work you should have it looked at by an authorized service technician, but I will say that digital camera repairs often exceed the value of the camera. I hope this helps!

That has happened to me before. When I got my camera for the first time, I took all kinds of pictures. About a week later, it did the same thing yours did. So I got new batteries and I wouldn't work. So I went to the store where I bought it and had it exchanged for a new one. If you haven't scrached it or anything and kept the reciept, then go to where you bought it and have it exchanged.
