There is a fax tone when dialling our telephone number.

After buying a new Canon FAX-JX500 we cannot access both the fax and telephone lines. All our friends and family have been complaining of a fax tone when dialing our telephone number. Is there a way we can fix this without getting a separate line?

Set your fax to MANUAL MODE. You will have to press START when you know you are getting a fax.

This is the only way it will work without a dedicated fax line.

Hi my canon fax-JX500 displays 'line in use' and has no dial tone. Can you please tell me how to fix the problem?

Unplug your fax from the phone line. Plug in a phone. Dial tone? Yes? then either fax is bad or the phone wire is bad.

No dial tone? Phone line dead.

I am trying to fax, but I keep getting a "busy"

Make sure you have pluuged the telephone line lead into the "LINE" socket and not the "TEL" socket of the fax machine. I reckon thats why you are not dialling out correctly. If this is in an office, make sure you are dialling the access number for an outside line, usually a 9 before the phone number.

MMY fax machine can receive faxes but i cant send any fax ?

If you machine has a telphone handset attached, see if you can make an outgoing telephone call. if it can then your machine has a dialling problem. Check to see if your dialling method is set to tone/DTMF. It may be on pulse and if in the uk it may cause the problem. If it is on tone/DTMF then it may not be sending any tones. These are usually generated on the modem chip. If this is the case then a new control board will be required. Before buying a new one it may be prudent to RAM CLEAR the board (a full reset). It you want to do that then repost telling us what make and model you have. Good luck

When telephone line is connected no dial tone, any number press ask by line, please check the number you dialled ,after some seconds the telephone line becomes disorder.

are you using a modem? do you have a fax machine? switch the fax off. if a modem is present the main phone must be connected to that modem and the additional phones place through out the house (using other phone jacks)

Cannot receive faxes

Make sure that the telephone line from the wall is plugged into "LINE" and not "PHONE" on the fax machine. You might also call the fax number from a different phone to see if you can hear the fax tones.

Canon jx500, getting 'check 5100'

I had this problem and solved it = )
You turn off the fax, take the paper out, then open the cover just after you turn it back on.
Leave it open for a minute and let the cartridge go back and forward close the cover and wait till it tell you to press stop and it should be back to normal.
Hope this helps

Auto-answer issue: fax beeps on line when voicecall received

Try changing the receive mode from automatic to FAX ONLY and set the number of fax rings higher. You should be able to receive phone calls and if you are not answering your phone it will automatically receive a fax.

Fax nightmare!!!

If you have a BT line and use the 1571 answering facility , when you have a message waiting the dialling tone changes from a constant tone to a split tone. This is to let you know that you have one or more messages waiting.

In order to get the dialling tone to revert to the constant tone you have to deal with the waiting messages in accordance with the options provided i.e Save, Listen Again or Delete. BT say the Split Tone is to let subscribers know when they have a message waiting. This should resolve the Fax problem.

It certainly worked for my phone/fax system.

Good Luck

No loop current

Check the line cable. Try inserting that line to another telephone unit. And if there's still no dial tone the problem is on the line itself. You should call your line provider. But if the line is ok, check the LIU connectors if it is inserted correctly. It the connectors are ok, then the possible problem is on the tel. line circuit on its mainboard.
