To use your mic, get a head phone that has mic or get a mic its self, insert it into the mic space on your laptop and follow the steps below:

  1. Click the start menu
  2. From start menu, click all programs
  3. From all programs, click accessories
  4. From accessories, click sound recorder
  5. From sound recorder, click start.
When you finish recording, click stop and an option of where you want to save your recorded sound will come up. Usually its default place of storing recorded sound is "Documents".

The steps above are mainly for windows vista. You can also use the same idea for windows X P etc.

Take care.

Go to your sound properties and make sure it's not muted. Also, the recordind device should be the mic. Then open a recording application and give it a try.

How do I activate my built-in microphone?

Which Operating System?

Go into the control panel and check your Sound and Audio Devices and make sure the microphone is selected.

If you have a megaphone at the bottom right near the time double click on it to open it Click the Options then properties and look at the recording device and make sure it is checked.

Click Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/Volume Control and click options to select the Recording Device and check Microphone.

Click Start/Control Panel and look for Audio and Sound and check it for Recording Device and check it.

One of the above should help you find the Microphone depending on your operating system.

My microphone wont work

Is it plugged into the microphone jack or is it built in? Make sure you have the volume turned up on the microphone and make sure the microphone is not muted. Also go into your audio properties and make sure the voice recording and microphone is selected and you might be able to run a test from there also.

Does the Dell Inspiron 1520 have a built in microphone

Yes this Dell laptop does have a built-in mic.
If the person cannot hear you then, either your microphonedriver not installed or not working OR the microphone is not configured inSkype.
To test your microphone then click on Start - All Programs - Accessories -Entertainment - Sound recorder. Then record your voice and then play it back.If this is OK then the microphone need to be configured in Skype.
To configure the microphone - Open Skype - Tools - Options -Audio Settings for the Microphone THEN click on Save.

Hello. I have a HP ProBook 6540b. Serial : CND022091X Product : WD691ET#ABN The built in microphone desn't work. Dependant on Skype due to my work. Where could I find the software for...

Im pretty sure it does not require a software for the microphone driver, neither do you need a driver for it.

its very simple, if you can hear audio (music or whatever) you have the soundcard driver installed successfully and if so we are one step closer to solving this issue.

Listen to me and listen carefully! This is a step to step guide.
First off, press the following. (start - Control Panel ((make sure you have small icons for win 7 / vista)) click on sound, go to the Recording Tab, there you should find the microphone for your HP Laptop, make sure its set to default. were not done just yet. Make sure your microphone is selected and press "properties" and go to "custom" the microphone boost is good to have selected. now continue on and go to "Levels" make sure its not silenced or set on low.

Thats should do the trick, hope it worked!
Cheers =)

Make sure that you have the Microphone pointed to your webcam within SKYPE. I know that with Ventrillo you need to set it up to see the device within the program. I would look for options within Skype.

ACER Extensa 5620 Microphone not working

You're probably having an issue with the driver for the MIC that's related to the virus clean that you just did. I would recommend reinstalling the drivers for the microphone. This should FixYa!

Cannot get laptop microphone working

Double click on the little speaker icon on the Desktop toolbar at the bottom right of your screen. The volume control window will open. Click on options then properties. Next check the small round recording button. Now make sure he microphone box is checked then click ok. Now a window will open that will show your microphone recording level. Move the slider up about half way and make sure to check the small "Select" box near the bottom of the slider. Open up sound recorder or whatever application you are using and try to record. If this does not work I would get an external microphone plug it into your laptop and try recording again. If the external mic works then I would think that you internal microphone is not working. There are some very cheap external mics on the market that sound very good. If you are doing any serius recording you may want to invest in a USB microphone. The USB mic should come with it's own software and setup should be pretty simple. I hope I have been helpful.
