You probably need a bypass module to bypass the factory anti-theft system.

I have a 01 Jimmy with a bulldog remote starter that when it was installed worked ok. Now its 2 years later and it tries to start but will not fire. Cranks over just a couple of times then kick out.

there should be a way in the settings of the brain that lets you pick a longer cranking time. idk exactly how to do it but if you look in the manual that came with it or go on the web site or call the company they should be able to help you

Inside your remote is a small flat driver slot this is a tuner ,start inside the car and gradually turn the dial and try the remote , this will tune the remote.,Does the light on your remote flash when you push the button?

After installation my starter has been replaced twice (within 2 months)- the only 2 times I used the stop button

It is possible that the Tach/RPM monitor circuit (an integrated system that informs the RSM [remote starter module] that the engine has started and is running) is malfunctioning or is not properly connected, hence the continuous effort of the RSM to start an engine that is already running, causing damage to the cars starter and possibly other circuits and/or wiring.
Return the car to the installer and have diagnostics ran on the Tach/RPM monitor circuit.
Your system may have a hardware or programing choice that will allow you to decide between a  tached or tachless operation, depending on the model that is installed.
I hope this helps... Good luck
