I have a Samsung 712n monitor that passes a self

I have a Samsung 712n computer monitor that passes a self test but shows no display otherwise. The menu button does not display the menu. It does this on any computer. I have another monitor just like this one that works fine on any computer. I have swapped cables but the results are the same. I have updated drivers but the resulta are the same. I'm wondering if there is some type of default resetting method available in some button sequence. In case you missed it before, the menu button does not display the menu.

Jcriley, If your SAMSUNG is not to old, try to get them to replace it or do a cash+old unit for a same model refurbished unit! You may have a monitor that has a "switch-mode-power-supply" that is in partial or full shutdown mode. When very strange and weird things start to occur with a LCD fluorescent lamp backlit monitor or for that matter LCD tv/monitor I would always suspect the culprit to be the SMPS!!! Get back to me lmistyrel@ aim or 12fixlouie on fixya after you perform SMPS evaluation test using the flashlight trick to see if the screen data is still being displayed even though the screen appears to be blank. It may only be BLACK, but not blank!! Read some of my other posts here on fixya and also visit a website www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm FYI !! It is run by another tech on fixya nickname "buddymc". If you do a second post, give us a little history of unit in question such as age and screen appearance just prior to BLACK SCREENof DEATH setting in! 12fixlouie

Monitor screen shows side to side display instead of up and down. How do I return to up and down display

Dear,

To rectify your problem, Perfrom these steps.
Self-Test Feature Check (STFC) Your monitor provides a self-test feature that allows you to check whether your monitor is functioning properly. If your monitor and computer are properly connected but the monitor screen remains dark, run the monitor self-test by performing the following steps:
  1. Turn off both your computer and monitor.
  2. Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer. To ensure proper Self-Test operation, remove both Digital (white connector) and the Analog(blue connector) cables from the back of the computer.
  3. Turn on the monitor.

Not optimum mode recommended mode 1280x1024 60hz syncmaster 712 n pop up occasionly I have to shut down computer

Your video card and computer memory may not be sufficient to run in the recommended "optimum performance mode" that Samsung and Windows both suggest. Please try setting your display setting at a lower resolution such as 1080 x 760 which is still quite excellent. Otherwise you may need to buy a better video card or increase system memory to run the higher mode graphics.
Good Luck!

I am having problem with a Samsung 712n monitor that remains black when the PC is booted up. The PC drives other monitors all right, so the trouble is not the PC. The buttons on the front of the monitor...

The monitor should be replaced, by your description there is more than one issue, it has a screen display problem and several buttons are not responding to any commands, and the monitor is six years old. The cost to repair would not be justified, and a new replacement would be cheaper.

Monitor cycles on and off. There is a display, but only shows for 1/10th of a second. Its a image flash, then black screen, wait for one minute, then it tries to turn on again.

Most common failure in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, falied inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors to get some ideas what goes wrong: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further.

Samsung SyncMaster 213T - DIM DISPLAY

I would follow the self-test below. If you see the same issue in the test screen then your monitor has lost it's sync and would need a board replaced.

If it dosn't appear during the test, then you might want to test it on another PC.

Self-Test Feature Check
1. Turn off both your computer and the monitor.
2. Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer.
3. Turn on the monitor.
If the monitor is functioning properly, you will see a box in the illustration below.

b1df19a.jpg
This box appears during normal operation if the video cable becomes disconnected or damaged.
4. Turn off your monitor and reconnect the video cable; then turn on both your computer and the monitor.

If your monitor screen remains blank after using the previous procedure, check your video controller and computer system; your monitor is functioning properly.
