Canon mp730 has stopped printing magenta. We had just changed all the other color tanks (black, cyan, yellow) and magenta stopped printing. We then found we had dislodged the magenta tank (was unclipped). Clipped it back in but still does not print magenta.

    Hi, I ran the clean print head a couple of times, then swapped the magenta for the yellow and got magenta printing for yellow. Then swapped back and seemed to get both colours but very poor balance.
    So I carried out the print head alignment process and some settings were way off - after adjusting them good results were obtained.

Unclip it again and clean contacts on both printer and cartridge with a lint-free paper and a little alcohol (isopropyl alcohol if you have it). Clip it back and run the head cleaning and alignment routine; that should be enough.

Canon MP610 Printer
You cannot switch to the larger black cartridge. You are using a CMYK (Cyan, Yellow, Magenta, Black) format for printing color images.

The larger cartridge is used for text only. The smaller black cartridge is used for color or graphic images.

If the black cartridge was not present, every time you needed black in an image, it would have to come from the composition of Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. This would greatly reduce the life of the color cartridges.

Printer prints wrong colors
As a guess you have the color ink cartridges in the wrong places. Take them out and run a whole bunch of head cleaning routines. I'd expect the wrong colors for a while until the incorrect ink has been flushed out.

Check your manual or setup guide for the actual order . Usually black-cyan-magenta-yellow

Problem seems to be with your Ink Tank(s) or Printing Head. Replace both of them one by one and retry.

Magenta printing as yellow
Well, first off, are the alignment, and nozzle check sheets looking good? If not, then work on that. If so, then we have a problem. Try creating a test sheet in Word. Make red, yellow blue & black text and see if anything else prints wrong. Get back to me!
