To reset the device, hold down the "MODE" and "ON/OFF" buttons at the same time for about 3 seconds.

Hopefully that will do the trick. if not you cant contact me for further help!

Look at the back of the unit, there should be a screen and below that a small control interface. To the left and right of the directional pad there should be to buttons. To the left "MODE", and to the right "ON/OFF".

    hopfully that helps!

Hello I have an sb800 nikon flash (4 years old) that has just started to act up....seems as my shoot goes on the flash seems to get very warm and wont always fire... Im using energizer rechargeable 2500mah...

Are you shooting those 20 pictures in rapid succession? If so the flash is saving itself by shutting down. If that is not the case, check your batteries with a battery charger to see if one may be weak causing a strain on the others. Call Nikon 1-800-645-6689

Sb800 firing without pressing shutter release

sounds like a short in one of the circuit boards, most likely one or seveal of the ribbons and boards will need to be replaced to correct the problem. Send in for repair expect to pay up to $200 for a Nikon factory overhaul

D70 and SB800 sync issue

On the D70 custom menu (Pencil icon), there is an option to Synchronise shutter speed below 1/60 second (the default).
See 21 Shutter spd.
You can select anything from 1/60th to 30".

Sb800 doesn't flash

Let's force the flash to fire:

nstalls four fresh batteries.

Turn on flash, do not connect to camera

Wait until flash is ready

Get a small wire with insulation and strip both ends about 1/8".

With one end of the bare wire lead, touch/hold CENTER TIP

Contact(silver pin from flash).

Make sure flash head is not pointing at your face.

With other end touch bare wire to OUTSIDE Contact (silver on
outside of hot shoe that rides into camera hot shoe rails-this is ground).

Flash should fires, gets a flash out of the flash tube.

If not, you have flash problems.
You most likely hurt the flash by using the dome filter on top of flash.
Over 80% photographers are doing this way when shooting flash photography. And 95% for wedding photographers.

This will shorten the life of the flash.
Even more with that adapter parked onto the flash.

Hope they are helpful to all photographers.

Nikon D70 flash doenot fire

According to my information, the camera may need a new flash PCB (printed circuit board). Check the repair service search on this site for someone in your area. The part number for the circuit board is: 1S014-020-1 and runs about 50$

SB800 firing but not syncing??

I had that same problem with the SB600 and the SB 800. Solutions; get a new one. After about a year of usage the sb600 started giving me that problem. It flashes but it does not sync. It still works as a remote unit, but not mounted on the camera. The SB800 just went to a coma last weekend. No sync at all, not even as remote unit, no strobe function, just a bright flash, when triggering the test button with new fresh batteries, it flashes at max power once and takes around 7 seconds to recycle. No multiple flashes at all. I had to buy a new one.
