I just set up or thomas lionel train. and the train is not moving. there is power to the track (the bulb on the track lights up) but the train doesn't do anything . . . the train whistle isn't working either

If you can pull the roof off of Thomas there is an on/off switch within the cab. I don't know if you tried that at all..just a thought..

Answer a number of questions:
Is the tranformer power adequate for the train and is it a working tranformer?
Will the train run by connecting the wires directly to the two points of the train (wheels and center rail connector)?
Are the tracks new?
Is the lockon new?

There is no on/off switch. Remote will give no indication of working. Try putting engine and coal car only and try. I have had this train set for two years and the remote tends to work whenever it wants.

SOURCE: I have a Lionel ZW transformer older version

bad track connection.... clean the track with dry scotchbite pad, then wipe with soft cloth, or the connection pins are loose in the track. tighten with needle nose pliers

Have power to the track loco cab light turns on red bow lights up but train dosent move at all. No bell or ho ho and nothong on any of the other cars
Try new batteries in the controller Be sure they are in correct. The LED light should come on when it has power. Try moving closer to the train. Usually when the red light is flickering is when there is an engine problem. But here is the Manual just in case you did not have one. Also it has a number for lionel Service in there. Lionel legacy will not run more than 2 trains
see pages 44 & 45 of attached pdf to figure out your power requirements for all locomotives, lamps/light bulbs & accessories.
compare total needed to power output of your transformer, if total is less that output of transformer, clean wheels, roller pickups & track.
if total is greater than output of transformer, you need more power/larger output transformer. lean wheels, roller pickups track.

Blinking green light
Check to make certain that the batteries in the remote are good. Make sure that when using the remote, you orient the antenna in an upright position and are within 6 to 8 feet of the locomotive.
If the train has been running successfully and the problem has only just started, clean your wheels and the pick up roller on the locomotive removing any fluff etc. then clean the track. If the loco is still not working contact the Lionel Service Department on

My 1941 Lionel train stops getting enough power to run all the way around the track. Voltmeter says 15 volts around all track and transformer says 15 volts. How do I test engine?
If your sure the loco contacts/wheels are clean and the track is ok then remove the loco bodywork and check the motor. You can apply a 12v supply directly to the motor contacts to test if it's running ok. If it does run ok then suspect and clean the brushes and associated connections. If it does not run try moving the motor armature manually. If it is stuck it is probably time to replace it. If it moves apply a light machine oil and test again.

Help please. Lionel (30190) Thomas & Friends remote O gauge. Train won't move. Light comes no, nothing. I took the roof off and made sure the switch was in the on position. ??
First, check to make certain that the batteries in the remote are good.

My new lionel train slows down on far side of the track
There is bad contact in the track connections. You can sand the track connection sites. Another method is to run another power wire to the other end of the track where the train slows down. Even better is 3 or 4 evenly spaced power wires from the transformer to the track.

Ι've just joined 2 ovals 40x60 lionel fastrack, used some other items 2 Lionel 6-12018 FasTrack O-36 MANUAL SWITCH RH, 2 Lionel 6-12017 FasTrack O-36 Manual Switch LH, A few 6-12014...
It sounds as though you may have two defective transformers. Lionel has reported problems with some of their smaller transformers. I would have the transformers and the engines checked by a Lionel service station or contact their customer service department for help.

Why is the green light on my Lionel controller blinking? I inherited a Lionel Union Pacific Express Set. Put it together and not working except the train moved for a second.
