I have an emerson 900w microwave mw8999sb sn908003050mm. I have tried cooking in it and setting the timer at the same time to time something else that I am cooking. Can it be done with this type of microwave since I had one in the past that I could do it. Otherwise I am very happy with it.

The owner's manual is here, and it does not mention that as a feature.

One way to prove that is to press the "Kitchen Timer" pad while the oven is cooking and see if anything happens.

No modern microwave that we know of has this dual function, but it sounds interesting.

I have an Emerson 900W Microwave MW8999SB and it will randomly assign DEF1 and the rest of the keypad is difficult or not functioning. None of the quick buttons work, and only the 30-second button works....

Pressing the Clear/Pause button works. Sometimes. Most of the time, about a microsecond after pressing Clear/Pause, it goes right back to def1. Most of the time, pressing ANY button doesn't work. Usually takes me 10 to 20 tries to get anything to work. My microwave is about 3 months old. I will never buy Emerson again.

I have an Emerson 900W Microwave Oven, Model #MW8992SB. Def1 stays on continuously. When I hit "stop, clear" it beeps off and then beeps "Def1" immediately. Then eventually I am able to hit "1" or "start"...

So many microwaveso have issues because there are millions and millions of them. You need to study the booklet and set aside some time to explore it. Write down what you do and assess it. In about an hour you'll figure it out. Download the booklet! Ovens are similar with various timers. It gets complex owing to the size of the electronic controlsystem.but totally fixable!

Emerson microwave not working 900 watts

The Emerson MW8999SB 0.9 cu. ft. 900 watt Microwave Oven is relatively compact, and certainly inexpensive, but doesn't skimp on functionality. We were surprised at all the options you get with this little microwave. It's only 20 inches wide, 11.3 inches high and 16.1 inches deep yet. The interior can still accommodate a regular size dinner plate or small (10-inch-square or round) casserole. Plus, there are 10 power levels, eight one-touch function buttons, six Express Cook settings, timed and automatic defrost options, and a rotating glass turntable to circulate the food for more even cooking.

We were very pleased with the performance of the Emerson MW8999SB. It did a fine job heating water for tea, cooking a couple of baked potatoes, reheating leftovers and steaming fresh vegetables. Even the automatic defrost proved surprisingly efficient, letting you enter the weight of the item(s) to be defrosted (4-100 ounces) for easy operation. Chicken breasts were almost fully defrosted after one cycle. We needed to stop and separate the food pieces to finish the defrost cycle.

The unit is styled mainly in black but has stainless steel trim around the door and control panel. The smooth touchpad control panel is attractive and easy to wipe clean. We loved the one-touch Express Cook buttons, which let you activate the unit at 100 percent power for 1-6 minutes, by pressing the corresponding number pad. We also appreciated extra touches such as the Start/+30 sec. button, which can be used to start the oven or add an extra 30 seconds each time it is depressed.

It's hard to go wrong when the functions are so simple. The only tricky part was identifying certain codes used on the display screen. When changing the power level, for instance, PL10 is displayed on the screen. Pressing the button additional times lets you toggle through the different levels. Likewise, the Auto Cook settings may need to be pressed multiple times to obtain the correct weight or portion for the food being cooked.

We were amazed that a machine costing so little also offered two-stage cooking, which lets you start cooking (or defrosting) on one setting and finish on another. All in all, the Emerson MW8999SB is an excellent value.

Pros: Touchpad controls, eight one-touch function buttons, six Express Cook settings, two-stage coking option
Cons: Limited interior capacity can only accommodate dishes up to 10 inches, no sensor

I have the black/stainless steel m/v MV8999sb. Just today, when I used the any express cooking button, instead of cooking, it is acting like a kitchen timer. It is also flashing to icons on the top; one...

The two icons are normally present for any timed cooking in this microwave. If you are not getting the food to heat (since express cook is at 100% power), the magnetron, thepart that produces the microwaves, may be damaged. If your unit is out of warranty, it may be easier to replace it.

The part itself is fairly cheap: http://www.partstore.com/SearchResults.aspx?q=Magnetrons&cft=Microwaves+_gt_+Magentrons&cfilt=374&sort=salesrank&ctf=Parts&ctfn=Parts&ps=100&bf=731&bfn=Emerson . However, you need to avoid damaging the seals to avoid having the radiation leak. (It makes the microwave inefficient and can be dangerous to people and pets nearby.) Additional parts for microwaves are also available at partstore.com: http://www.partstore.com/Content/CategoryPages/Kitchen-Microwaves.aspx .

The manual for the MV8999sb is available here: http://kitchen.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/emerson/mw8999sb.html . Click the Get this Manual button. See page 13 of the PDF for the pictures appropriate to the Quick Cook option.

I hope this helps.

The oven sparks and gives a loud hum during use with plastic food containers. This scares my wife and mom terribly. I have an Emerson 900W microwave oven (model:MW8999SB).

It seems as though the container has a small amount of metal embedded in it ... don't assume just because it is plastic you can put it in the microwave.
Tip ... put just the plastic container in empty and try it. If the plastic get hot then it's the wrong type plastic for a microwave

My mother just bought an Emerson MW8119 Microwave and can't figure out how to only set say 15 seconds cook time. Is it possible?

Hi! I just purchased the same microwave, and came online to find the solution. I was then able to find the correct answer to this problem. On this model, Emerson does not put a "time cook" button for odd cook times such as 15 seconds. Instead, they have you push the "Power Button" prior to setting the cook time.

If you want to cook on full power, press the power button once, and then enter your cooking time and press start. If you want to cook on 50% power or 30% power or something like that, push the "Power Button" several times until the appropriate power level is displayed, then enter the cook time and press start.

The reason that it starts up right away when *********** pushes the 1 button is because Emerson has the quick cooking feature for 1 minute through 6 minutes. You only have to push the number once to get the 1 minute cook time or anywhere through 6 minutes respectively.

Hope this helps!
