Brother DCP-9045 CDN end of Belt Unit life override, how too? I have a Brother DCP-9045 CDN and it tells me the Belt Unit needs replacing. However it works fine and I am convinced there is more life in it. Does anybody knew how to override this? Thanks.

Thnaks! I had found this previously:

When you replace the belt unit with a new one, you need to reset the belt unit counter by completing the following steps:
Turn on the machine's power switch.
Press Menu => Machine Info. => Reset Menu.
Press the Up or Down Arrow key to choose Belt Unit.
    Press OK.
Press 1 to reset the belt unit counter.
    Press Stop/Exit.

However, "Reset Menu" is NOT an option in my menu, that is why I posted it here.

    Any other suggestions?

Hi,
Turn your printer off. Turn it back on again, go to menu -> Machine Info -> Reset Menu, choose Belt Unit, OK, then reset the counter pressing 1, then press stop/exit. Same for drum.
If however this won't work, go to the following page and look at the instructions. Do what it says, but just pull out the drum unit and put it back in, the same with belt unit, just pull it out and put back in.
Then do the reset procedure as described. Should fool the printer ;)

Can't open drum unit

The drum unit is removed by sliding the entire tray towards you, then raise the greyish locking toggle on the left hand side of the tray slide. lift the tray handle slightly and pull the entire tray out. When replacing the tray, put the back end in and then drop the locking toggle before pushing the tray home.

My brother DCP 7055 shows eror replace toner

Some Brother laser printers have separate consumables - the toner cartridge and the drum unit. From time to time you may need to replace only the drum unit and not the toner cartridge.

The error LED lights up, or an error message shows on a flat screen panel, when the drum unit is near the end of its working life. Use the drum unit until you have a print quality problem, then replace the drum unit with a new one.

What does a belt life ends soon mean, on a brother MFC 9440ch color laser printer?

Are you sure of the error message? The Brother printers that I have used have Drum Ends Soon and Change Belt messages.

The Brother MFC-9440CN has a belt that can be replaced. The Belt unit has an life expectancy of ~50000 pages. The belt unit is part BU100CL and costs a bit over $150 at office supply stores. Amazon.com and some other stores have the unit for under $100. http://www.amazon.com/Brother-BU-100CL-HL-4040CN-HL-4070CDW-Series/dp/B000SC245E is one source.

When the unit says Change Belt Unit, follow the directions from the manual's maintenance section to replace the belt unit. See page 178 (page 189 of the PDF) http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/files/dlf/doc002252/mfc9440_usa_usr_b.pdf . You have to remove the Drum and then the Belt Unit. Then slide in the new Belt Unit and replace the Drum unit. Then close the printer and turn it on. Finally reset the counter from the Machine Info sub menu (press Menu 8 4 and select the Belt Unit and press OK. Then press 1 followed by Stop/Exit).

If you mean the Drum Unit, that is part DR-110CL and costs over $175 at the office supply stores. Order this part when the Drum End Soon message appears and replace it if the print quality deteriorates (or when you have the new drum). The Drum Life is ~17000 pages. The steps start on page 166 (182 of the PDF). You need to remove the old Drum unit. Then remove the toner cartridges from the drum. Prepare the new Drum Unit, including putting the cartridges in the new Drum. Then replace the Drum unit and reset the counter.

I hope this helps.

This message would appear if the drum unit is near the end of its life. Use the drum unit until you have a print quality problem, then replace the drum unit with a new one.

This message would continue to appear if the drum counter was not reset when you replaced the drum.
To reset the drum counter, follow the instructions below:

  1. Open the front cover.
  2. Press the Clear/Back key.
  3. Press 1 to reset.
  4. Close the front cover, pressing firmly on each side until they click into place.

Dcp 7020 and 7040 toner life end message premature, need override

When the Toner Life End LED flips on, requires you to replace the cartridge, even when there's still toner left in the cartridge. The machine detects end of life by shining a light through from one side to the other.
To circumvent the detection mechanism, remove the cartridge and put a piece of masking tape over or jam a little bit of paper into the clear opening/circle on the right side of the toner cartridge, and then pop the cartridge back in. Eventually, you'll start seeing streaks, and then you'll know that the cartridge is truly empty.
