Fridge freezer not reaching operating temperature

I have a fridge freezer (self defrosting) that has suddenly stopped reaching its required operating temperatures. It has only one compressor but it seems to run ok...it switches on and runs for 50 - 70 mins or so then switches off ...BUT I can't get a temperature in the freezer below 0 centigrade and the fridge is about 6.
Can you help me analyse what's gone wrong? Is it repairable? The fridge freezer is only 5 years old.
Thanks.

Our Candy has gone the same way - and the grille on the back is Red Hot. Tried switching it off for a day but it still isn't reaching proper freezing temperatures

Not cooling in fridge, fridge temperature in freezer

Self defrost mechanism has a problem. Check the defrost timer and defrost heater element for proper operation. Ice buildup is the culprit.
If you unplug and defrost overnight, replug, it will work fine till the ice builds up again.

Freezer stays frozen, but refrigerator doesn't stay cold

Its defrost problem. When the freezer section gets cold and reaches its required cooling temperature, after that the frost on freezer section starts defrosting and the cooling fan in the freezer section blows this cool air from freezer to fridge. But if the defrost cycle does not start then over ice will get collected on freezer ventilations and that will block the air passing section from freezer to fridge, so the freezer gets cool but fridge section does not cool.Try manual defrost by unplugging the refrigerator from main power outlet for 24 hours then reconnect it and check, if the same problem is noticed again,. If yes then its defrost board problem. The defrost board located in the back of fridge section. You can get required parts from www.repairclinic.com or from online sears part site. ------------- Thank you.

My compact fridge does not defrost and ice builds up in freezer section. How can I disconnect the freezer and not use it?

Lynne, the freezer section is what provides the cooling for the fridge, so there is no way to disconnect the freezer and still be able to have the fridge operate.

With the small compact fridges, the only thing you can do is to manually defrost the unit, when the ice buildup gets too much, which can vary, based on how you use your fridge, how often it gets opened and closed, etc.

Some compact fridge models have a small push button in the center of the temperature setting control knob - if your's has one, you can push that to initiate a self defrost cycle. However, you'll need to have some towels handy to collect the water that will result from melting off the freezer section.

There are not many small, compact fridge units that have the no-frost feature of full sized fridges, as it is more costly to build in all the needed components required to have frost-free operation. Not to mention the size of the fridge gets much larger, because of all the space needed to house those features (defrost heaters, electronic controls, ciruculating fans, control vents, sensors, drip/drain pan, etc., etc.)

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!
