So far I have disassembled the unit down to the bare board and washed it several times with Radio Shack "Precision Electronics Cleaner" and it works great for a short time and then falls back into its old behavior. It may be that just disconnecting the batter for more the 10 minutes causes the same behavior. Works great and then falls back into the same behavior of just scrolling up to the top of whatever menu is on the screen. So far I have disassembled the unit down to the bare board and washed it several times with Radio Shack "Precision Electronics Cleaner" and it works great for a short time and then falls back into its old behavior. Take a blunt paperclip and gently insert it into the earphone out hole. Push in and there should be a click. The whole front will pop off. You have keep pressure on the paperclip and slide the faceplate out (The pressure is necessary to release all four of the catches). When putting it back keep constant pressure and slide back in. Quite a bit of force is necessary when clicking the face plate back into place.

You should try to upload the newest firmware for your device. Simply go to irivers site, look under Iriver Clix Generation 1 support (I'm guessing you have the generation one... if not, just click generation two). Simple as that!
If you set up Windows Media Player to autosync to the Clix, then, when you delete songs from the computer (including the wallpaper jpeg), the files also get deleted off the clix. Make sure you have Manual Sync enabled in Windows Media Player (or, more accurately, disable auto-sync).
If auto-sync is already disabled, then you have a good, old-fashioned DB corruption. You can reload the firmware from iRiver's website: http://iriverinc.com/support/ultra/clix2.aspx.
battery. if you are charging it and it won't hold the charge perhaps you just need another battery. the worst thing it could be is the motherboard. i would try sending it in to see what the problem is.
