my friend,your prossesor is not working the way it should be,thats why your half of the screen is dark and sometimes goes off, bring it repair shops and there'll get it fixed.
Most PS2 games are dark and auto brightness controls will casue your LCD tv to brighten up automatically in response the dark video coming from PS2 games. I suggest you get into the menu settings of your TV and find a setting that will shut off the auto picture controls.
