Samsung DLP HL-R5667W lamp won't fire. Changed lamp & ballast and still won't work. Fans are working fine, color wheel good. Lamp door switch good. When I power on, I hear ballast buzz like it's trying to fire the lamp. What else could be my problem?

More info on problem - tv worked great until we turned it off, then would not turn on next day. A couple weeks before it went out, it didn't turn on one morning for an hour or so, then tried again & came right on.

Was the replacement lamp the same part number as the original as there are different arc gaps for different lamps and the wrong arc gap will cause the lamp not to light. Since the ballast is powering up the lamp should light if the baalast is matched to the correct arc gap of the lamp being used.

Samsung hln617w dlp tv won't turn on. Red temp

Had similar problem. Thought it was the lamp. Examined old lamp but it appeared to be good. Ordered a new one anyway. Changed the lamp but the TV screen would not come on. It would make the usual noise as it was going to come on normally but it would cycle 3 times & then turn off. The LED lights in the front panel would indicate a defective lamp. Then read about the ballast. Changed the ballast & still same problem. Tried starting the TV without the lamp installed & noticed that the color wheel did not spin. Removed old color wheel & discovered it was broken. This appears to be the cause of all of my problems. I wish I new earlier of the test-turn on the TV without the lamp being installed & check to see if the color wheel is spinning. Would have save money on the lamp & ballast.

We own a Samsung DLP-TV. Last night it started shutting itself off. WE changed the lamp, but it is still shutting itself off after a minute. First, the picture goes off black, then the entire TV shuts off....

Do you still have your old lamp? try to see if it still works.. i think the problem could be something with your Ballast or maybe the color wheel.

Does your TV makes a strange sound? if it does maybe one of those 2 ballast or color wheel.

LETS TRY THIS....... MAYBE IT WILL WORK.

the Door lamp switch could be faulty, you've got to check it need to close fine with out the switch to go down

here is a picture that i found it looks like this!

Samsung DLP turns on and off - cycle repeats

make sure put the lamp door back before trying to turn it on because they have switches on them that allow the tv to turn on. If that is ok you probably have a bad ballast.
Call a local tv repair shop to further diagnose the problem.

Lamp Light still on after replacement

First, A common mistake made is when you insert the orange ribbon cable from the Color Wheel into the DMD bd. To correctly insert the Ribbon Cable you need to look at both sides. You will see a shiny silver side and a dull black/orange side. You must insert the shiny silver side AWAY from the Color Wheel or towards the rear of the set. Now for the Ballast. When you power up the tv,Do you hear a short Buzzing sound? If you do that means that the Ballast is trying to fire up the Lamp and is working. Next, do you hear the Color Wheel spin up? If you do not then you have installed the Color Wheel incorrectly and you need to repeat the installation while making sure that you hold the rubber gasket in perfect place or else it won,t work. Chances are the gasket is in the wrong position and is binding the Glass Wheel. The Ballast is on the right side of the engine and on top of the Lamp Housing. You will see two RED High Voltage wires coming out of one end. Don't worry, there is no stored voltage in the ballast so you won't get a shock providing you have unplugged the tv from the outlet. That is the first step before you change any parts any way. Listen for the correct start sequence. With the rear backing off and the Safety Interlock Switch is being held in the up position, turn on the set. First sound you hear is a clicking which is the power on relay engageing. Then you will hear the fans turn on and then the Color Wheel spin up. Once the Color Wheel spins up and comes to full RPM then the Exciter on the Ballast will Buzz for less than half a second and then the Lamp should light up. Now if you have installed the correct Lamp and correctly installed the Color Wheel and you either are holding up the Interlock Switch or have reinstalled the rear cover and tightened all of the screws you should have a working tv.

Dlp has no picture only flickering lamp & timer lights.

Verify color wheel is reconnected, color wheel needs to get up to speed before lamp strikes

Samsung Dlp HL-R7178w not turning On.

If all 3 leds blink, it can be the lamp, ballast (lamp driver), color wheel, or dmd board (all are engine parts = engine failur). its usually the lamp, but you can listen to troubleshoot. when it turns on, you will hear the fans come up (humm..airflow noise), then you will hear the colorwheel (high pitched squeel.. it will come up to speed) and then the ballast will fire up the lamp.. if the lamp doesn't fire, you will hear the spark gap fire (a 1 second buzz noise indicating bad lamp).. the gap will fire 3 times, they tv will then retry again and again until it shuts off and kicks out the error. this power up path will help you listen to find your problem. i can assist further.

Samsung DLP HLM-617W/XAA

with lamp out (door closed) the ballast should "strike" or give an arc sound, trying to fire the lamp. If it does not do that maybe the color wheel is not spinning up - has to do that first.........then the set will try to fire the lamp

Samsung HLS4266W 43" dlp

Power issues (Tv not turning on) were typically due to faulty ballast. While the TV reports a bad lamp it is the ballast itself causing the issue. Samsung is well aware and will replace both the ballast and the lamp (since the lamp can be prematurely aged but the bad ballast). After replacment most people stop having issues.
