My "my book" was accidentally pulled out while being used and now it won't come up in "my computer" window. Have I lost the use of it on this computer? What can I do?

Sometimes when a flash memory stick or USB hard drive fails because it was not removed from the USB port properly. If the device is removed by just pulling it out of the USB port, it can cause the flash device to fail, you must click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Task Bar and select the device you wish to remove and only do so when instructed to do so.

When the flash memory or USB external hard drive device appears to malfunction it maybe possible to restore it by reformatting it. Insert the flash drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Healthy.

You need to format the external drive. Format the drive as primary drive and in FAT32. (FAT32 will allow data to be exchanged between MACs and PCs).
Insert the external hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Health

Transfer books from Kindle to iPad

You are able to move the books to computer, and then sync ebooks to iPad with iTunes. When the Kindle users connect their Kindle tablets to computer with the USB cable, their computers will recognize their Kindle tablets as external hard drives. Then the users can copy and paste the ebooks from Kindle to computer easily. After that, the users are able to sync the books from computer to iPad with iTunes.

This is easy to be done. But when users begin to sync their iPad with iTunes, they may come up with the sync problems of iTunes. The problem may come up when users sync ebooks from iTunes to iPad. During the sync, iTunes will erase all the non-purchased items in your iPad mini. If you are new to iOS devices, you will probably lose files during the sync with iTunes, so you'd better close the auto sync and manually sync the ebooks to your iPad mini with iTunes. The following tutorial will be helpful if you aren't sure about how to accomplish the task:
  1. Start iTunes and go to "Edit > Preference > Devices", and check "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically".
  2. Plug iPad into computer via USB cable, and the software will recognize your iPad and display the iPad icon at the upper right corner.
  3. Click the iPad icon and choose "Books" in the summary panel. Choose the books you want to sync to iPad in the list below, and click "Apply" to start.

Hitachi xl1000- windows won't recognize it and computer wants me to format the drive. i need help.

Try plugging the USB drive into another computer.
If it does not work then try this.
Recuva (pronounced "recover") is a freeware Windows utility to restore files that have been accidentally deleted from your computer. This includes files emptied from the Recycle bin as well as images and other files that have been deleted by user error from digital camera memory cards or MP3 players. It will even bring back files that have been deleted from your iPod, or by bugs, crashes and viruses!
  • Put the memory card into an USB card reader and plug it into the USB port in your computer, then run the Recuva program.
  • Simple to use interface - just click 'Scan' and choose the files you want to recover
  • Easy to use filter for results based on file name/type
  • Simple Windows like interface with List and Tree view
  • Can be run from a USB thumb drive
  • Restores all types of files, office documents, images, video, music, email, anything.
  • Supports FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, exFAT, NTFS, NTFS5 , NTFS + EFS file systems

My book hard drive won't read

1. First try to use another usb cable. If it still won't work.
2. Try plugging it into another computer. If it still won't work.
3. Try removing the hard drive from your BOOK HARD DRIVE, and plugging it directly to your computers desktop SATA socket using a SATA cable. If it works, backup all the data of your BOOK HARD DRIVE and then delete the partition and make a new partition and then format it.

I have down loaded a bea to delete other songs -also I have one auto book I am not able to delete

What is a 'bea?'

One way to delete songs (and maybe books) easily is to it through your computer, while the Sansa is tethered;

1) Download the Sansa Clip manual. Here's a link;
http://www.sandisk.com/media/327475/CLIP+_UM_0809_ENG+090309.pdf

2) Put your Sansa in MSC (Mass Storage Class) mode.
Go to Settings, then USB Mode. Select MSC mode.

3) Tether the Sansa to your computer. It will look like a USB flash drive.

4) Delete or add Music, or Books.
You can use Windows Explorer to look through the directories on the Sansa, and delete files directly, as you would on a USB Flash drive.

Special Note on Audio Books--
Get an extra memory card, 4 to 8 Gb should do, and use this as your destination for audio books. If you have a book that will not delete, you can pull the card and re-format it, while leaving your songs intact on the main memory.

If you cannot delete the book through the computer or by menus on the Sansa, you may have to re-format your main memory. Hope that helps!

Left my wd book elite unplugged awhile. now computer won't recognize it. plugged in same way and in same position on my desk

Try plugging the usb cable directly to a usb port on your computer and not through a usb hub. Also make sure the ac adapter for the Western Digital is getting power and the light on the drive is on. Also a recent update to your virus program could be blocking it( it happened to mine).

Hello,

Unfortunately if these drives are unplugged while running the structure of the drive can be damaged, normally if they show up in my computer there is a simple fix that works about 1/2 the time but if it is not showing up that will not work.

The two remaining possibilities are that the enclosure circuit board was damaged or that the structure was damaged as expected just worse than usual.

If you right-click 'My Computer', then select Manage, the MMC will open. Now click on the Disk Management utility and maximize the window. When it's done reading the drives and displays them scroll through the list and see if your 1TB drive shows in the list, if it does report back the exact wording and partition sizes showing as this may indicate a problem you can solve with inexpensive software.

If it doesn't show up this indicates that either the drive enclosure circuit or the drive itself is damaged. Report back including your Country, State and City and I can point you in the right direction for the professional assistance you will need on this issue.

Hope this helps FixYa

Wester Digital My Book 1 TB problems

Try booting your computer first and then connect the usb cable to the usb port on the computer. Connect the power supply cord directly to a wall socket. Also try the usb cable on different usb ports on the computer. If possible also try it with a different usb cable. If nothing works, check the file format system under disk management, you might have to re-format it.

Western digital my book 320gb not recognised

Try first disconnecting all USB ports and power plug for half an hour, this will get rid of eventual problems caused by electrostatic charges on usb channels.
If it does not work, this means that the virus has corrupted your Windows System, probably the root hub is defective.
In this case you will have to reinstall windows, either using recovery, from disk or partition, or using a Microsoft windows setup disk. Save all your data before reinstalling.
