Kenmore Elite HE5t Washer Logo

My Kenmore Elite he5t washing machine isn't draining. My daughter put in a load of old material, and some of it just fell apart when it got wet. We cleaned out the junk trap down by the pump, and that helped. However, there seems to be a clog higher up in the system somewhere. Whenever we plug it in or try to start a cycle, it tries to drain out the water that is already in there. It looks like there is some sort of valve that opens up when it's time to drain the drum, and I think that's clogged. How do I get to it?

OK, I fixed it. I took the back plate off so I could access the parts better. There is a short rubber tube that comes out of the bottom of the drum area and goes into the pump clean-out unit. The top part is bigger and has a wire clamp. I squeezed the wire clamp and it was easy to pop the rubber hose off the plastic connector. There is a plastic ball that acts as a valve if the water down below backs up.

Anyway, it had two or three scrungees stuck up there. The water drained, more slowly because they're somewhat course, but when the clumps of decaying cloth came through they clogged them up so it didn't drain at all. I pulled them out and threw them away. Put the rubber hose and wire clamp back on and now it works like a charm.

Oh yeah. It was giving an F28 error message. I also learned that if it can't pump all the water out, it won't unlock the door. I had to access the manual release. There's a little plastic tab that pokes out of the bottom of the door lock. I could reach it through the bottom kick plate space, if I reached my arm up on the right side. Or I could reach it from the top after I took the top off.

I am not a repair professional. I am just a 78 year old
man who has been making his own repairs for about
50 years. Therefore the washer ID doesn't mean
much to me. It's been about 55 years since I had
experience with front load washers. However I can
suggest you go to www.applianceaid.com where
they have very good trouble shooting and repair
information on front loaders. I think you'll find what
you need there. Good luck with it. If I have helped you, please rate my advice on fixya.

Kenmore Elite Model 44836

Check that the feet are level to the floor as this may cause the vibration. Also set the machine to wool mode this then knows what material you are putting in the machine then should cycle to that material.

Clothes are wet ant washer is leaking when draining!

You may have 2 issues here the leak from a bad or worn hose somewhere or a bad water pump seal. and the wet clothes as a result of a bad clutch break assembly, a loose worn belt, bad motor coupler etc depending if direct or belt drive

How do I get to the pump to clean it on my Kenmore he5 washer

Remove the bottom panel in the front or toe kick area. It's 2 or 3 small screws and lifts up. You may have to tilt the machine back to remove it. The pump and strainer are accessible there. The strainer cap screws off, put a catch tray under it because up to quart of water can drain there. Clean the strainer of debris before replacing pump.

He5t tearing clothes

Are you sure that the clothes are not getting caught on exposed zips.

Why not load some things like towels sheets (without zips/buttons etc) in the washer and see if the issue repeats itself. You should also be able to see if there are any sharp edges or loose sharp items in the drum (mind your fingers)

Keep getting a LD CODE WHAT UP WITH THAT

LD is long drain. Remove the bottom panel to access the drain filter. Clean it out and re-try.
The drain filter should be on a regular maintenance schedule on these front load machines.
