Not all usb market cables meet the manufacturer specifications .

So u should use the original Cord, if not try one or more cables from any other device you got that have the same ports.

I recently bought a Toshiba Satalite laptop to replace the one I dropped which was also a Toshiba Satalite. I had taken out the old hard drive and installed it in the new one but now it wont do anything...

Yes it does matter. XP was configured for the old Toshiba and this will only work if both Toshiba laptops are exactly the same model.
To get your new Toshiba operating, put the new hard drive with the Vista operating system back in the Toshiba laptop.
To transfer your data from the old hard drive, purchase a USB adapter hard drive case and place the old hard drive inside this case. This will then be an external USB hard drive.
Plug this USB hard drive into the new Toshiba's USB port and it will detect it as an external storage/hard drive. You can then open the various folders and files and copy the data files to your new Toshiba.
To free up disk space on this USB hard drive, delete the Windows folder, Program Files folder and other folders that are no longer needed.
Use this hard drive as a backup hard drive etc.

External hard drive won't connect to computer

first of all you should try it on deferent pc , if its ok then thatleads us to insufficient power provided through usb ports , try usingback usb ports not the ON-front, and if the problem still try usingdual-usb cable like thishttp://www.cooldrives.com/usb-power-cable-mini-b.htmland if the external hdd doesn't work at all it might be the usb controller board inside the hdd cage needs to be changedif you cant find a similar one you may buy a new empty cage

I want to convert to usb drive a model pa2669u fdd . are there any converting cables for this? thanks joe shimchick

Thats looks like a proprietary connector, you will not find a cable that will convert that fdd to USB, sorry :|
Anyway I doubt the cable would be much cheaper than a new USB external FDD.
USB FDD on EBAY $10

I have a toshiba external drive 250GB. model HDDR250E03X. I believe the socket for the usb cable is loose...sometimes its working, most of the times now--its not! I already bought a new usb cable but still...

Hi,
I have experience this error recently.
Normally these drive with high capacity like yours need to be installed with usb 2.0 cable and connected to a usb port that support usb2.0
Check if your motherboard support this.
Also if you are using an extension cable or a usb port hub try to bypass this and connect directly to the mainboard at the back
One thing more
At times new Hard disk need to be formatted, so go throught disk managemnent and locate your disk to create partition and format the Hard disk.
If you need more help
please revert back
I will be glad to help you for further problem.
One thing you can do is to check your Usb port with another device eg: a usb pen or usb printer.
ok
cheers

Usb 2.0 portable drive has (5pin mini) will only work with usb cable that came with canon camera. other brand new usb 2.0 cable won't work. Tried this with 2 different drives and also with mac and PC

Suggestions:
(best to worst)
1. Use a "Y" USB cable with that drive.
2. Use a shorter USB cable.
3. Use the new cables with the canon
4. Use a 2.0 hub

The drive should have come with a "split" USB cable (USB "Y" cable). The drive requires a "data" and a "power" connection to your computer.
Get one at Radio Shack, Best Buy, Office Depot/Max... ($10)... or Dollar store ($1.09)
