The 2WIRE modem will have at least 3 ports:
* AC power,
* 4-pin telephone-cable, connecting to a telephone-jack in a wall-port,
* 8-pin Ethernet-cable, connecting to the 'WAN' port on the LINKSYS router.

Look at both ends of the Ethernet cable. It's necessary that the colour-arrangement of the 8-wires is _IDENTICAL_ at both ends, i.e., a "straight-through" cable, NOT a "cross-over" cable.

With another "straight-through" Ethernet-cable, connect one of the LAN ports on the router to the network-adapter port on your computer.

Turn on the 2WIRE modem. Wait for the lamps on it to settle down to a repeating pattern.

Turn on the router. Wait for the lamps on it to settle down to a repeating pattern.

Turn on your computer. When Windows finishes booting, you should have a connection to the Internet.

Trying to hook up DSI to AT&T 2701HG-B gateway to make it wireless

hi,
So you want to connect your Nintendo DSI to your 2wire modem.
Here are the steps for connecting you DSI wirelessly:
1. First you need to realize that the game console the requirements for the wireless password should be WEP.
2. Open the Nintendo DS setup Utility
3. Select the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings
4. on the next page just click on the search for an access point.
5. then click on your wireless name.
(when you still using the default name for your 2wire it will be 2wirexxx "XXX last 3 numbers of the serial number of the 2wire modem")
6. when it is asking for the wep key it is the 10 numbers under the barcode of your 2wire modem.
7. Select No under Auto-obtain IP Adress.
8. click Save settings.
this is the steps on connecting your DSI for wireless connection.
If this doesnt work call At&t for connecting your DSI.

Have SBCglobal with 2wire but want N wireless capability

Follow the dots -

2 wire DSL wire to back of DSL modem.

Ethernet cable out of DSL modem, to current router (if you have one).

Ethernet cable out of current router (if you have one) to new Wireless N router.

If you currently have a wireless G router, keep it, or, use the new Wireless G/N router alone. You will need to set up all security settings again if you remove your current router, and if the new router is N only, you will need to make sure all your wireless connecting computers have wireless N cards in them.

CAN A 2WIRE DSL ROUTER WORK WITH A CABLE INTERNET CONEECTION

The 2wire dsl modem/router cannot be use with a another cable modem , since this 2wire device is also a modem/router and its made for the DSL conenction that's why it wont work with Cox cable, the best thing that you can do is to ask Cox to give a wireless modem/router like this 2wire so you can still use the wireless connection of your computer..

Hope that helps..........

Connecting 2wire router with desktop pc and laptop

hi! try to check the settings on your 2wire modem, you can do this by going to gateway.2wire.net, run the system setup wizard, when you get to the ppp authentication page, check the username & password on it, it should be the one that you setup for your ISP account. as for the wireless on the desktop, it depends on the brand of the wireless adapter, be sure you have installed the drivers for this adapter. you may need to go to the client utility manager or the wireless adapter shortcut/icon on your computer screen then configure it to "see" the 2wire network. make sure wireless encryption is turned on in the 2wire modem's MDC, you can do this by going to homeportal/management, or go to gateway.2wire.net/mdc.

2Wire 1701hg gateway- Broadband Access problem

hi! have you used this other identical 2wire modem before? if this other 2wire modem (is it the same 1701hg?) well you may need to configure the settings first. also 1000 series modems usually have 3 lights on it; power, broadband link, and local network. if these 3 lights are on, you may need to access the modem's user interface. assuming that all lights are green, on your computer directly attached to the 2wire, open up any browser, type in gateway.2wire.net. it will give you the network at a glance page. click on run system setup wizard, type in the system password. on the ppp authentication page, please check if it has your username & password (this is the one that you set up on your internet acct w/ your ISP), the next screen will establish a connection. (please tell me if you've got any error messages...)

Lost Ethernet and Wireless Connections in Modem

I've not used one of these 2wire boxes before, but I believe the default router's address is 192.168.0.1. Try this instead of gateway.2wire.net to see if you can gain access to the router. This is just the starting point, but see if it works.

Here's a link to, what I believe is, the router's manual.

Before you rate this please let me try to help some more. This could be a multi step process...
