Probably caused by a power supply nearing its death.
Try to verify this by placing a portable fan to the side of the set with airflow directed at the vented sides.
If this lengthens the operating time, there is a good chance that some minor components in the main supply have developed low values of capacitance and higher losses which worsen with warmth.
Listen closely at the vents with the sound turned down to attempt to detect a squealing sound while the TV is in its failure mode; if you find this, it is also a sign of power supply trying to die.
A tech equipped with a capacitance meter that measures losses at the same time, could find and replace the weakened parts without a whole lot of labor and little cost for parts.

Luxor lux0140001B/01 1 week old picture has top half with a grey see through screen

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following
symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can
examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life
of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.

VIZIO 42in LCD HDTV - Dark colors and flickering

It sounds that the back-light CCFL lamp is faulty. It is time to replace it. When replacing, do it to all CCFLs, because, the life time to these lams are expiring now, as the set is nearly 4 years old. Check this link http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ to get more details about how to replace the CCFLs. Pull up older posts there. Some among it have details.

Samsung 46" LCD LN46B650 started showing vertical

had a very similar situation with my Phillips 42 in. LCD TV.

Here was my Problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened it up( Warranty was Expired) and found several faulty capacitors on the PSB. Its pretty common. Major Electronic companies were sold faulty capacitors that fail in 2-5 years instead of 10-20 due to a lack of preservatives. It wouldn't surprise me if you have the same problem. TV will work fine for a few years and then just fail completely or slowly deteriorate.

Here are the solutions
1. Have it Repaired
2. Check for faulty caps and if you find some(budged or leaking) you know you have located a problem
Remove the board and replace the whole thing.
3. If you have some soldering skills you can replace the faulty caps.
Caps are very inexpensive, under a dollar in most cases. I replaced 4 for about $5.00

Hope this Helps.
Good Luck

My 52inch xbr4 tv is 2 years old. Intermitently over past 2 months, when I first turned it on, I get thin vertical lines and double imaging especially over left half of screen. After a few minutes it would...

I have the same issue. Bought the TV 1/08 and it started showing those exact symptoms about 3-4 months ago. It generally progresses and gets worse. You can try to fix it as it's some kind of TAB connector issue, or keep calling Sony so that the 52" owners of the XBR4 and 5 series get the extended warranty just like the 46" owners received for the same series. If enough of us keep calling, they'll have to act.

Samsung LE26R73BDX 26INCH - LOSS OF DIGITAL SERVICE

Solution that worked for me:

Beware: Although the process should be safe, it technically voids your warranty.

Enter the service menu:
1 - turn of tv with remote
2 - press and release in the following order on the remote: Info, Menu, Mute. Make sure remote is pointing at the tv
3 - turn on the tv from the remote
4 - you will see the service menu. using the down arrow on the remote select the Reset option. Using the right arrow button at this point will do a hard reset.
5 - Wait a few seconds, turn TV on
6 - you will have to rescan analogue and digital channel but it should be working now.
