You're describing the process known as "cropping". While this is possible on a handful of cameras, you would have to check your manual to see if yours has this capability in the camera. You could use any photo editing program to crop out unwanted material in a photo.

What is the difference in the optical and digital zoom?

Hi,

Find the difference below

Digital Zoom

1. Digital zoom is a part of digital cameras, and camcorders, which helps to crop the entire image, and then digitally enlarge the size of the viewfinder of the portion that is needed to zoom in on
2. Digital zoom crops the image down to a centred area with the same ratio as the original, and also interpolating the result back up to the pixel dimensions of the original. this method involves cropping, hence the resolution and quality is reduced
3. Digital zoom, crops a portion of the image and then enlarges it back to size. And due to this, image quality is reduced in comparison with the original one.
4. Using the digital zoom allows the user to get closer to the subject when the photographer wants to be discreet about taking pictures, like taking a picture of a person in a graduation ceremony.

Optical Zoom

1. While taking a picture using a Camera to want to get a close shot of the subject without moving physically closer, photographers use the optical zoom.
2. The optical zoom ratio of a digital camera measures how much the lens can actually zoom in to make subjects appear closer. Optical zoom, enlarges a picture while keeping the resolution and sharpness of the picture high.

3. There is no relation between optical zoom and the resolution of the photo, as optical zoom only enlarges the whole image or the subject to a certain range. So image quality only depends upon the mega pixel (MP) of the camera

4. Optical zoom is very useful, while taking a picture of a landscape, or to get a closer view of a subject, without reducing the quality of the entire image, like taking a picture of a Rainbow in the sky.
Regards,
Ron

Cropping etc is usually more easily done on your laptop or computer. Not all cameras have the ability to do it in camera. Connect the camera to your computer, or remove the card and put it in a computer and you can edit them to your hearts content :)

What is the button on the bottom of Olympus Stylus zoom 140

No. You just rewound the film. The pictures you took are safe, but you probably 'lost' the rest of the film you did not shoot.

I can not take pictures

update, possible solution..
I pulled the batteries for 24 hours, attempting to force a reset of the camera. Today it worked, took pictures and zoomed just fine. I shut it off after about 10 pics and turned it back on and back to the start... Took the batteries out for a few minutes and put it back in and back in business. Hope this helps at least get SOME functionality out of it. This won't serve as a long term solution for me, but perhaps will lead towards a full answer.

Canon Powershot A75 problems ________________________________________ I have a Canon powershot A75 Digital camera its about a 11 months old and has a few problems now. 1. zoom doesn't work any more 2....

Having read on a few sites about loose ribbon wires causing problems and having this same problem. I decide to take the camera apart. Taking all the screws out and fidling with the "wires" connecting the zoom control and the photo type selector and the main circ board. I also cleaned the connector from the picture type selector. Then put it all back together the camera works fine again. NOTES... lots of small screws with varying lengths make sure you know where they come from. Took about 1 hour to do.Put back in the order you take apart or the back will not go back on.. Good luck have just saved myself a fortune
