What remote are you using? Need more information. If you're using your TV remote etc - press and hold the power button whilst pressing '1' then see if it turns on/off. I'm Sorry, you cant use an Infrared signal Remote for a blue signal Sony BDP- whatever BluRay Player.
Only a BDP-B101A - B105A gives a blue light signal for S300-S550 to get past the opening menu.
It will not sink

Get a firmware update from the SONY website...

If the remote is more than ~ 2 years old, it probably won't have a code set for your Sony. Check the DTV site for latest code info.

I have no idea if this will work for you, but it worked for us (and I have no idea why it did work!). In any case, all we did was hit the "Dimmer" button on the Sony BD remote. The disk opened; we shut it, and the disk began to load and played. Hope that helps you!
