There is no dedicated one key/button for wireless for IBM Thinkpad T42. If "Fn" + "F5" keys for the on-screen function that activate/de-activate the wireless not working, you can access it by IBM utility software: Start. All Programs.Access IBM. IBM Access Connections. You can use the software to disable/enable the Fn+F5.

There will either be a switch on the side of the machine or it will be fn and one of the funtion keys, look for an image like this:

My wireless was working on my T42 IBM last week. It is not working now. The only thing that happened in between is that I installed Microsoft Office. How can I get my wireless back? I get a message that I...

For most IBM ThinkPads, the shortcut key to activate wireless is Fn+F5. I am not so sure about this model, but you can try. If this doesn't help, check the Device Manager and make sure it's shown on the devices lists. By default wireless is activated once the driver is installed on almost all IBM ThinkPads. You problem could be driver corrupted or missing. The best resolution is reinstalling the driver so that it'll not fail. If the problem persists, then it could also be your wireless card failure. You better check it twice.

Good luck.

Where is the "wireless switch" on IBM 2645

If you have ThinkVantage Access Connections running (icon in the system tray), click on it and select Power On Wireless Radio. Another way is to press the blue Fn key and the F5 key. (The F5 key should show a computer with wireless lines coming out of it.)

Where is the wireless button on t42 thinkpad

There's no hardware switch to activate and deactivate the wireless networking, but pressing Fn and F5 brings up a menu that allows you to turn Bluetooth on/off, WiFi on/off or both. It seems like IBM isn't satisfied with standard toggle buttons like other notebook manufacturers - even pressing the Fn and F7 buttons to switch between internal and external screens, brings up a menu with multiple display settings and resolutions.
Hope this helps,
David
