Color problem Color comes and goes, mostly gone on main tuner. PIP has perfect color. Some bleeding into main screen when PIP is on. I was wondering if there it is possible to swap tuners to make PIP show on main screen.

I don't know how much experience in working on stuff like this, but it sounds like a solder run might be cracked. If you're lucky, it might be that a gang plug needs to be "exercised" by pulling off and the replacing a couple of times. You might want to try to do this - anyone with a modicum of experience in working on electronics and computers will be able to pull this off. Chances are, you'll disturb the connection to either get it to work, or to make it worse. If worse, that is actually better, as intermittent problems are expensive to have fixed.

My Rca 52 inch has lost color But If I set the feature

PIP means the set uses either two tuners or a dual tuner--could be a issue with the tuner. If it has a swap feature in the PIP use it to see if color when tuner is switched from main to PIP tuner.

A possible way around the issue is to look to see if rear audio/video inputs have color---you could route signal from a box etc to one of those and BYPASS the problem if rear inputs do not have this problem(not likely they will).

Color image is coming out black and white

does it happen on the any input or just on tv setting?
if it's judt tv then sounds like the tuner, if it's on any input, then the video chip or a decoder on that board.

How does PIP work ? where does the signal come from for the second picture ?

PIP uses the signal from a second tuner to insert a small or split-screen image on the main image. Some TVs have two tuners but most PIP applications need a signal from a VCR tape or tuner (tuner must be digital since 6/12), a DTV box, or a cable box for TV programs. A DVD player can also provide a signal for PIP if a DVD is playing. However some TVs will not allow PIP if the signal inputs are through the HDMI ports.

Screen looks like a picture negative, PIP works fine, sound fine

Sony's have dual tuning systems to allow for the separate PIP channel. The common problem on the Sony's is the circuit board and tuning module connections go bad. It is likely that the connections on the board or module were already in the decayed process and moving it just accelerated the issues that were inevitable.

The quick fix is to swap the PIP over to the main picture or to bus the antennae signal to the antennae B terminal thus bypassing the bad tuner module.

The recommended fix action is to have someone with soldering skills to remove the chassis, and locate all the cold and cracked solder joints, especially near the tuning modules. If this does not take care of the problem, the tuning modules will need to be removed for re-soldering on the actual tuner modules.

If none of the above works, then you can always use the audio/video outputs of a cable box or vcr to the a/v jacks of the tv, thus bypassing both tuners in the tv.

Color

This could be an problem external to the TV. What signals are you sending to the set? Does this happen with the internal tuner as well?

Thanks,

Ilo problem

What I hear you saying is that your main television tuner shows lines only while the PIP is functioning properly. The PIP works by using a separate tuner from the main tuner of your television (like a vcr tuner). Since the PIP works then it appears that your main tv tuner is not working anymore. It will probably have to be replaced. I recommend looking at our online technician list for a professional near you.

Good luck :)

Foot note to issue

If the source to the PIP input is a color signal then the PIP display will be color. PIP sets have two video sources one goes to the main screen while the other goes to the PIP. it all depends on what the format of the signal is being sent to each input. This is quite normal.

Pip

On the front of the TV while it is on, press on the ACTION and POWER buttons at the same time and hold them for about 5 seconds until the screen goes blank and comes up with a diagnostic screen. Once that happens release them and press action again to clear the diagnostic information. Now your TV is se back the way it was brand new so you will have to proram the channels back into memory and apply your color, brightness, hue etc..settungs as those have all gone back to factory as well.
