You will need to download the BIOS installation software for DOS if they have one from the motherboard manufacturer and the BIOS file. You will then need to make a bootable dos cd-r disc using windows. Once you have done this you can use the disc to start your computer in DOS mode. Then burn the BIOS DOS SOFTWARE and the BIOS FILE on a cd-r. Then you will be able to run the BIOS software from dos and install the bios file. You could also install windows on a USB hard drive then try to boot from it if your computer can boot from USB and the USB boot device option is still working.

Boot Problem

I hope your laptop still can boot up from the DVD drive, so you can make a bootable DVD media with the BIOS flash (using other computer) to replace the current corrupted BIOS.

I pulled a jumper off sli motherboard my cd rom is not reading disks alienware alx

Assuming you can eject disks, and the drive is appearing in my computer / windows explorer, check the SATA (usually red) cable connected between your drive and motherboard, If it is correctly connected try using another SATA port on your motherboard, if that doesnt work you can try going into the bios (usually by pressing delete as it is booting) then checking to see if the drive is being detected, you should see it in SATA devices, and also in your boot menu. If it isnt there its a hardware problem.. replace cables, try using the SATA port from one of your Hard drives.

If the drive is in showed in bios, and
is not appearing in my computer / windows explorer, go into control panel, system, hardware, device manager (if using XP, other versions of windows also have device manager) if there is a yellow question mark next to the dc/dvd drive, run the installation cd for your drive, or right click, update driver, run through the wizard selecting the location where you saved the drivers.

If it is installed correctly, and you have tried numerous disks, making sure they are not dvd's if its a cd drive, the you can try downloading the bios file from the manafacturers website and updating following their instructions

The problem is that it wont boot from cd/dvd..i updated bios..but had the same problem again, help please

Most probably one of the following reasons..

- CD could be corrupted
- CD was not written in a "Bootable" mode
- CD Drive could have become old. Time for replacing.
- Boot sequence in BIOS needs to be checked up.

CD/DVD Drive now disappeared

Sorry to say that your cd/dvd drive is DEAD

You need a replacement

You have done all you could to see if the registry is corrupted and drivers are installed which are the basic things the drive needs to run

Since you have said that you did these things the last resort is to now declare it dead and replace the drive.

System wouldn't power up and when i replaced the power supply it now powers up without pushing the power button but does not even enter bios (screen is blank as if no output). Won't spin up or read Windows...

You've probably reset the bios, so we won't belabor the point. Sounds like the motherboard is toast. You replaced the power supply, and that was probably the culprit, but it took out the MB as well.

A 478 board is older, but you should be able to eBay one with similar specs.

I have an ECS G31T-M motherboard with the following: INTEL Core 2 Duo E8400, 3.00 GHz 1333 MHz Socket 775 6MB, Thermaltake W0379RU 500W power supply, OCZ OCZ2G8004GK DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz 2GB. My system was...

You seem to have tried everything. Is it possible for you to reload your motherboard drivers, particularly the IDE and SATA drivers. Maybe one of the SW drivers got corrupted. Hope this works.

Cannot replace corrupted bios, wont recognise hard drive. no windows installed, blank hd. how can i install a new bios direct to the mb using dvd drive?

A motherboard must have a working BIOS, because the BIOS (Basic Input-output system) contains the instructions that get the computer started enough to be able to turn on the hard drive and the CD drive (and the floppy). A search online should yield a service that can install a bios, or yield a place where you could buy a pre-flashed bios chip for your motherboard. This is step one. Once you have this, you can do all other installs, assuming that the motherboard is ok. Good luck.

Tecra M2 doesn't boot is it a processor problem?

given the symptoms, it points to motherboard.. if it was processor, video or ram. it wouldnt boot at all and you'd just get error beeps from your laptop. i'd first try resetting the bios, by removing the bios battery for 30 min, then putting it back in. if that doesnt work try changing it out, usually costs under 8 bucks. if that doesnt work then I would change out the motherboard, if its cost effective.
