First, the power went out, afterwards this showed up. I vaguely remember seeing this problem with a someone's tv many years ago, but I do not recall the solution. Could it be as simple as turning off the close-caption feature.First, the power went out, afterwards this showed up. it was a screen back light failure, the lamp get busted in the upper portion of the panel display. to access this part you will need to remove the back cover using a philip screw driver. the back light is covered with metal shielding.to replaced the back light, be careful in disassembling the cover not to damaged the lcd screen panel.
Check your closed-captioning setting and make sure captioning is turned off (or set for captions if you really want them). You'll find it's set to "text" mode right now. The set is blanking out a portion of the screen to display text it never receives, and you'll only see this when you view a channel where captions are being broadcast. Most sets have a button on the remote for captions, and it's easy to switch modes without knowing it. Then you wind up with the mysterious black box.
If this helps you out, please take a moment to rate the solution. Thanks for asking here!
Check your closed-caption settings. You should find it's set for "text" right now. Turn it to "off" (or to "caption 1" if you want the captioning).
In text mode, the TV blanks out a portion of the screen to put up text that never shows up. You only notice on channels or programs where captioned programs are being broadcast. This is a common problem; on many remotes there's a single button to control captions and it's easy to hit it and change settings without realizing it.
