You need to go into your BIOS and set your power management to default, and then go into windows and set your power management (under "settings") to get it to do whatever you need it to do. For example, if it hangs on standby, and you have in your settings that it is supposed to go into standby after 30 minutes, you can disable the standby to get rid of the problem. A side note: Have your hard drive turn off after about 10 minutes or so. Otherwise you are just wearing it out for absolutely no reason at all, and HD power up times is less than a second or two. Hardly noticeable.

Well by default Closing the Lid will cause computer to go to Sleep mode and you can't wake it up using mouse. However you need to press power button to wake it up.
But as you said it was working the way you explained then seems like Power settings on your computer are changed
To check the settings Got0 -Control panel and click on power Options Goto - Advanced and find the Lid open/close actions You can change it there If you don't want your computer to goto sleep mode with the lid close, you can simply disable it.
Hope this worrks

How can I wake my computer from sleep or hibernation?

On most computers, you can resume working by pressing your computer's power button. However, not all computers are the same. You might be able to wake your computer by pressing any key on the keyboard, clicking a mouse button, or opening the lid on a laptop. Check the documentation that came with your computer or go to the manufacturer's website.

Hi there,

Normally when you put your computer to sleep with your keyboard you only have to press a key on the keyboard to wake the computer again.
I normally use my spacebar to wake my pc but any key should work fine.

Kind regards!!!

Power saving mode activate using pc

The pressing of the F-8 key while the computer boots up is called entering the Computer into the "Safe Mode". The F-8 key needs to be pressed several times at the second the computer powers on. When you get a DOS screen, go to "Last known good Configuration", this should help with the problem. The other solution i can offer is ounce you can get the computer up, go to System Restore, Restore to a previous point.

Let me know if this helps

Monitor Turns Black - Won't turn back on when moving mouse

It is probable that the ROM system, called BIOS (Basic Input/Output System), is set to not wake your computer by moving the mouse or pressing a key on the keyboard.

I do not know which BIOS your computer is running so I can only give a general answer.

When your machine is starting up, look for a message that says "Press F2 to enter BIOS" or something like that. Your machine may have a different F key assigned to enter BIOS.

There should be a setting in there that allows you to change the values for waking the monitor. It should say something like "Use keyboard and Mouse to wake up computer", it won't say those exact words, but something like that. If the value is set to disabled, then enable it. Then save your changes and exit (Usually by pressing F10)

Be careful when in BIOS. Changing settings you do not understand can make your computer behave erratically or stop functioning altogether.

ViewSonic Monitor has trouble to wake up after been shut down?

Ok sounds to me like a power supply problem.. this a a fairly common symptom. I suggest that as a temporary fix you set the monitor to NOT turn the power off to the monitor in sleep mode if possible, in your power settings for the monitor.
